on a suspect during a chase last night.

Police tried to pull over the
suspect's vehicle but were led down
several Northwest Roanoke Streets
before coming to a stop in the 600
block of McDowell Avenue.
Police say 30 year old Raytoine
Gray then tried to run on foot, and
that's when the K-9 Dog unit was sent
after him.
Gray was taken to the hospital
for a dog bite. He's been charged with
felony eluding and booked on an
unrelated count.

of a Roanoke man remains unsolved.
Last night, loved ones remembered him
at a vigil.

VO-NAT Police found 23-year-old Jamie
Penn shot to death in his vehicle
exactly one year ago on Thomas Avenue.

in memory of Penn, who played football
at William Fleming High School and was
described as a "gentle giant."
No arrests have been made in the case
- a situation similar to that of his
father.
Jimmie Lee Penn was murdered
seven years before his son, and it too
has gone unsolved.

GRAPHIC=FATAL Yesterday's fatal accident in
Henry County came as no surprise to
residents who live nearby.

It happened around 4:45 yesterday
morning on Route 220 -- about a mile
north of the Virginia-North Carolina
State line.
Investigators say 19-year-old
Kasey Lee Brown of Martinsville was
headed south -- when her car ran off
the road, struck a culvert and went
through the air before hitting a
utility pole.
Brown's passenger, 16-year-old
Ashley Lynn Pickard of Ridgeway was
pronounced dead at the scene.
Brown was pronounced dead at the
hospital.
State police say only Pickard was
wearing a seatbelt.
People who live near the accident
scene, say it's a dangerous stretch of
road.

GRAPHIC=Virginia Tech campus was evacuated for a couple of
hours yesterday, while authorities
investigated a chemical spill.

Someone dropped a bottle of
Hydrochloric Acid in in the basement of
Hahn Hall around 1:30.
Two students and one staff
member were sent to the hospital as a
precaution while the building was
ventilated.
Part of the building reopened
about two hours later.

safety building will soon be up and
running.

The 28 million dollar facility is
being built on Cove Road in front of
the school administrative offices.
When the new public safety center
opens later this year, it will house
the county's police department, fire
and rescue, as well as the 9-1-1
dispatch center.
County leaders say this state of the
art facility will be a big improvement
over the current building on Peters
Creek Road.

defending a couple who now faces
several charges....

charged with cruelty to animals and
raising dogs to fight.

Monday on drug charges, and ended up
taking 9 American Bull dogs.
Some of the dogs had visible
bites and scars to their faces and
backs.
Beverly Wright is a breeder in
Max Meadows.
She's known the Burlarley's for
four years, and says her friends would
never fight dogs.

man high on drugs and alcohol attacked
six officers earlier this week.

Investigators say 36 year old
Jonathan Lee Graham of Wytheville
showed up at the Galilee Church Monday
night ranting and screaming that
someone was trying to kill him.
Chief Deputy Keith Dunagan lives
across the street.
He was off duty, but called for
help.
When deputies tried to arrest
Graham, they say he got violent.
Graham is now facing numerous
charges including malicious wounding.
