New River Valley is over tonight.

24 year old William Charles Morva
was arrested without incident this
afternoon.
Morva is the inmate who escaped
yesterday after allegedly killing a
hospital security guard and wounding a
Montgomery County sheriff's deputy.
There was another shooting this
morning.

morning a Montgomery County deputy
looking for William Charles Morva was
shot.

The shooting sparked immediate police
reaction. Agencies from across the area
swarmed the scene with guns drawn.
The barricades and search even crossed
onto the Virginia Tech campus. And by
noon we had learned the deputy was Eric
Sutphin and he died from his wound.

was formally charged with escape,

shooting three years ago.

May 9, 2003 A Christiansburg police officer tried
to stop a shop-lifter at a convenience
store just off the Interstate.
Officer Scott Hylton was killed and
Eric Sutphin took down the shooter.
He was even grazed by two bullets.
The Sheriff says Sutphin was one of the
nicest people and described him as
brave and a natural hero.

enforcement 13 years.

had been in jail accused of robbing the
Glade Road Deli Mart in Blacksburg.
Before those charges....he was a
well known fixture in downtown
Blacksburg.
He was often seen hanging out at
many of the local restaurants.
His friends in the area say
they're shocked about what unfolded
over the last two days.

worried about one of their own...

At least two people were hurt in a
shooting just outside the intake area
of the Jackson County courthouse
today...That's just north of Athens in
the northeast part of the state.
A prisoner apparently took a
deputy's gun during a scuffle and both
were shot. The deputy is listed in
guarded condition, while the inmate's
condition is not known.
Police are still trying to figure
out exactly how everything happened.

proposed Westlake Substation for 60
days.

lead on democratic challenger Jim Webb
has evaporated.
In a News Seven Survey USA poll back
in July, Allen held a commanding lead
of 19 points...that has now shrunk to 3
points.

And breaking down the
demographics...the survey shows Allen
has lost most of his support among
young voters, a swing of 40 points.
The poll also asked how voters feel
about the amendment to make marriage
between one man and one woman.....65
percent say they will support the
amendment while 34 percent say they
won't.....And when you break this one
down, Republicans overwhelmingly
support it 8 to 1, Independents
support it three to two while Democrats

Arraigned Sunday in New York on
Charges of third degree assault. The
famous rapper allegedly attacked a man
for spitting on his car.
A spokesperson for the District
Attorney's office says Rhymes is
expected back in court in late October,
until then he has been released on his
own recog-ni-zance.
Meanwhile, the rapper's attorney
said the incident deserved a desk
appearance ticket, not an arrest.

and 4. He is a psychology major, who
