OQ=News 7, Blacksburg.

<<10:15 on Saturday night William Morva
told jail staff he fell out of bed and
injuried his right wrist and ankle.

He was examined by medical staff at the
jail and they recommended he be taken
here to Montgomery Regional Hospital.

Morva and a deputy left the jail

at 11:40 at night.

The hospital staff x-rayed his
wrist and ankle and both were diagnosed
to be severely sprained.

At some point Morva asked to use
the bathroom in the hosptial

Hall says Morva ripped a toliet
paper dispenser out of the wall.. it
still had the screws in it and used it
as a weapon against the deputy.

He knocked the deputy unconcious
and took his weapon.

Security officer Derrick
McFarland ran to help. Police say he
was shot and killed by Morva in the
hallway.

They say he then either kicked
his way or shot his way through a glass
door to escape at 2:35 in the morning.

William Morva never had shackles
around his legs because of his ankle
injury.

He did have a shackle around his
waist.

It wraps around and the cuffs
kept his hands here.

But his right arm was free

because of the wrist sprain.

OQ=...NEWS 7 SPORTS." << Even under the worst of driving
(END SOT) conditions the trip from Danville to

Blacksburg should never take 3 years.

Yet, that's how long it took
Kenny Lewis Junior to finally arrive on
campus.

KENNY LEWIS JUNIOR

His story has been well
documented. After becoming a Friday
Football Extra star at George
Washington high school he signed with
the Hokies planning to play both

football and baseball in Blacksburg.

But in that same 2003 calendar
year he was selected in the fourth
round by the Major League amateur draft
by the Cincinnati Reds.

KENNY LEWIS JUNIOR

Lewis will turn 22 the day after
the Boston College game this October -
he enjoys being called the old man on
the team, and he relishes the
opportunity to wear the same jersey
number his hall of fame father Kenny
Senior wore for the Hokies.

BILLY HITE

KENNY LEWIS, JR.

Unfortunately, all the hard work
in the world does you no good if you
can't stay healthy. Ankle problems in
the spring and now a bad hamstring have
kept Lewis from climbing the depth
chart. Mike Stevens News 7 Sports.
