Flooring in 11-classrooms at
Colonial Elementary was supposed to be
replaced.

But, the company scheduled to
tear up carpeting and lay tile fell
behind and the job was NOT done when
students returned for the first day of
school.

Teachers, faculty and staff went
into high gear and re-routed students
to other classrooms.

They also devised a field trip
which deals with subject-matter in the
students SOLs.

Meanwhile, construction was
scheduled to wrap yesterday evening.

Classrooms are supposed to be set

on Martinsville's plan to take over the
local cable system.

While Martinsville Cable
presented the case as "a right of first
refusal," Judge Michael Urbanski ruled
the city can't compete with Comcast.

He said Martinsville Cable is not
equipped to run a cable system and
lacks legal authority to own or operate
one.

The judge called it a brazen
leverage attempt, pointing out the city
was trying to "fill a revenue
shortfall" created by closing the city
landfill.

Unless the city appeals
yesterday's ruling, it looks like
Comcast will continue to operate cable
service in Martinsville.
