Allen says he's been prepared for
a fight from day one.
After serving as chairman of the
Republican Senatorial Committee --
helping G-O-P candidates win seats in
the Senate -- Allen says he knew he'd
be a target this year.
He believes Virginians are
comfortable with his record and will
base their voting decision on "fact not
fiction."

The law says ALL machines must be

EMMY GIFT BAG, LIKE SO MANY AWARD SHOWS
BEFORE IT, OFFERS UP A LOT OF SWAG.
"..the most valuable cultured pearls in
the world.." BUT THIS YEAR,THOSE
PERFORMERS AND PRESENTERS WHO ACCEPT
THE BAG - WHICH HAS BEEN VALUED AT
APPROXIMATELY $30,000 - WILL GET A
LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA...SOMETHING FROM
THEIR FRIENDS AT THE IRS...SOMETHING
CALLED A 1099 - A TAX FORM. "We want to
send the message that there is no red
carpet treatment for the stars." KEVIN
BROWN, FROM THE IRS, SAYS HOLLYWOOD
SWAG HAS EXPLODED IN RECENT YEARS. LAST
YEAR'S OSCAR BAG WAS WORTH AT LEAST
$100,000 ACCORDING TO SOME news REPORTS
- AND THAT'S WHAT'S RAISING EYEBROWS IN
WASHINGTON. "These are not gifts, this
is income. Gifts are altruistic in
nature. this implies a quid pro quo,
you're getting something in return for
the payment to the star or to the
celebrity." LASH FARY, A VETERAN
CELEBRITY GIFTER AND FOUNDER OF THE
ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING COMPANY,
"DISTINCTIVE ASSETS," DISAGREES. "I do
think that these are thank you gifts.
Yes, there is a value to the
celebrities and yes it is a business
perk, but let's face it, there are
business perks in pretty much most
corporations in America, and I think if
the I.R.S. is looking to increase their
revenues EDIT 02:37 they'd be better
served by taking a closer look at
Exxon, Mobil and Haliburton and these
sorts of companies rather than at the
Hanes Perfect Panties in Allison
Janney's Emmy gift bag!" FARY IS NOT
WORRIED ABOUT BUSINESS. "Our tax
attorney has already advised us of any
number of ways that celebrities are
going to be able to minimize the
taxable value of those gift bags. "That
intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and
Madison Ave. isn't going to disappear
just because the IRS made a press
release." OTHERS FOND OF GIVING AWAY
CELEBRITY FREEBIES, LIKE FAMED SKINCARE
EXPERT SONYA DAKAR, HAVE NO PLANS
WHATSOEVER TO OFFER TAX FORMS TO
ANYONE. "Never, never, never! I think
it's insulting and I will never do it
to my celebrities. I'm free to give
them whatever I want." THE IRS HAS
FOUND AN ALLY IN AT LEAST ONE UNLIKELY
SOURCE, THIS YEAR'S EMMY HOST, CONAN
O'BRIEN. "What do you think about the
crackdown on the Emmy swag? "Well I
think, why not? People are saying like
Mr. O'Brien a gold derby for you to
wear..a Gold Derby?? I don't want
a..Please! Mr. O'brien, so I say tax
the hell out of those bags!" AS FOR THE
REST OF HOLLYWOOD, THE IRS WILL HAVE TO
WAIT AND SEE WHO CLAIMS THE LOOT, AND
LEAVES...SWAG FREE. BROOKE ANDERSON,
