Hannett's departure sparked a
legal fight over control of the office,
and a judge's decison to appoint an
acting commonwealth's attorney.

But with his return and recent
action by the General Assembly, Hannett
says he considers the controversy
settled, and is looking forward to

getting back to work as the county's
prosecutor.

VO-NAT This week the department is

voluntarily going through a national
re-accreditation process.

Every three years, officers open
their doors so assessors can inspect
their department based on hundreds of
standards.

It's a tough process, and the
assessment team isn't just looking at
internal policies.

They turn to the community for
their opinion too.

This will be the third re-
accreditation process for the Virginia
Tech Police Department.

They were originally accredited

in 19-95.
