A detour because of a recent re-paving
job at Lexington's Bluegrass

Airport may be one of the reasons Com
Air Flight 51-91 headed down the

wrong runway.

The main air-strip was re-surfaced a
week ago--and the old taxi-route

was barricaded. That meant commercial
planes had to go a different way

to get to the main runway.

It's that confusion that may have led
the pilot down the wrong path.

The plane's black boxes are giving up
some clues.

Sot: Debbie Hersman/NTSB

"The planning discussions between air
traffic controllers and flight

crew were about a takeoff from Runway
2-2."

Runway 2-2 is the 7000 foot main strip.
Instead, the pilot tried to

takeoff from runway 2-6, a general
aviation runway only half as long.

The plane never got off the ground. 49
people died and only one

survived. First Officer Jim Polhinke
was pulled from the fiery wreck by

a police office who rushed to the
scene.

SOT: Debbie Hersman/NTSB

"There was extensive fire and a lot of
damage on scene."

Levinson On-Camera Bridge/lexington,
Kentucky

To help gather evidence, the NTSB is
trying to simulate the accident

along with checking markings and
lights. The lights on runway 2-6 were

not working when the plane took off.

All the bodies have been removed from
the scene and transported to the

State Medical Examiner's office.

SOT:

AT THIS POINT INVOLVES PERFORMING

AUTOPSIES TO COLLECT EVIDENCE, HELP US
DETERMINE IDENTITY AND ALSO TO

DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF DEATH.

Toxicology tests will all be done on
the pilot as part of standard

proceedure. But there is nothing
standard about the crash for family

members grieving the loss of loved
ones. DL, CBS News, Lexington.

THE KEY IS IN THESE PLATES.

The sport was revived eleven years ago,
by a couple of friends in Spain.

It begun in the stone ages and now some
participants want it to be an Olympic
sport.

Yesterday folks in Spain and New York's
central park were spitting olive pits
at the same time.

The longest shot measured in at just
under seventy feet.
