10 KMC Comair-Crash --- livegene Plane Crash 4134 --
GRAPHIC=Plane Crash It's being called the worst domestic
airline crash in five years.
Investigators are trying to figure
out why a Comair commuter jet tried to
take off from the wrong runway in
Kentucky.
Yesterday's crash in Lexington killed
49 of the 50 people on board.
Federal officials say the runway was
too short for the plane's size and
weight.

The Altanta bound flight should have
been using runway 2-2 a lighted seven
thousand foot strip.. instead Sunday
morning the pilots turned onto runway
2-6 a much shorter un-lighted strip..
not intended for commercial flights.

on board.. rolled for takeoff.. but
there was not enough pavement.. sources
say the plane never really got
airborne.. crashed through a fence..
and burst into flames

flash of light and the explosion and
then just a big plume of smoke come
up."
BRIDGE: Rescuers at the scene within
minutes of the crash reached the plane
s co-pilot.. who s in critical
condition after surgery.. but the
flames were too intense to save anyone
else.. all 49 others aboard died.

man in connection with a shooting.

It happened around one o'clock
yesterday morning in the parking lot of
the American Legion Hall.
Officers say a 31-year-old man
suffered gunshots wounds to his arm,
leg and chest.
He was transferred to Duke for
further treatment.
No word on his condition.

Police have charged 25-year-old
Ricky Jerome Myers of Chatham with
malicious wounding.
He's being held in the city jail
under no bond.
Police say the hall was being
rented for a family reunion when the

and the resulting lockdown at Virginia
Tech brought praise from
Christiansburg:
I appreciate that you didn't pass on
speculation about the hostage situation
until you knew to report that it was
false. As the wife of a police officer
that's currently on the scene, I wanted
to thank you most of all for showing
emotion when speaking of the death of
Corporal Sutphin. I appreciate the
feeling you have toward the law
enforcement officers there and it means
a great deal when the death in the line
of duty is reported in a personal way.
James Martin felt the murder of
Montgomery Regional Hospital security
officer Derrick McFarland was put on
the back burner:
I am also appalled at the almost
complete lack of sympathy being shown
for Mr. McFarland, the hospital
security guard that was killed. He was
unarmed but came to the aid of the
Deputy escorting Mr. Morva for
treatment and I think he is possibly
due more credit for his actions than
Mr. Sutphin....

Kentucky took off from the wrong
runway.
49- people died when Comair Flight
51- 91 crashed just after takeoff from
Bluegrass Airport yesterday morning.
The co- pilot was the only survivor.
He's hospitalized and listed in
critical condition.

there was not enough pavement.. sources
say the plane never really got
airborne.. crashed through a fence..
and burst into flames

BRIDGE: Rescuers at the scene within
minutes of the crash reached the plane

Friday night left one man dead.
It happened at around 9:00 near
Grassy Creek, close to the North
Carolina border.
23-year-old Joshua Bryson
Sizemore was traveling east on Route
725 when his vehicle ran off the road,
hit an embankment, and overturned.
Sizemore died at the scene. A
passenger was transported to the
hospital. There is no word on their
condition or if alcohol was involved.

man in connection with a shooting.

It happened around one o'clock
yesterday morning in the parking lot of
the American Legion Hall.
Officers say a 31-year-old man
suffered gunshots wounds to his arm,
leg and chest.
He was transferred to Duke for
further treatment.
No word on his condition.

Police have charged 25-year-old
Ricky Jerome Myers of Chatham with
malicious wounding.
He's being held in the city jail
under no bond.
Police say the hall was being
rented for a family reunion when the

and the resulting lockdown at Virginia
Tech brought praise from
Christiansburg:
I appreciate that you didn't pass on
speculation about the hostage situation
until you knew to report that it was
false. As the wife of a police officer
that's currently on the scene, I wanted
to thank you most of all for showing
emotion when speaking of the death of
Corporal Sutphin. I appreciate the
feeling you have toward the law
enforcement officers there and it means
a great deal when the death in the line
of duty is reported in a personal way.
James Martin felt the murder of
Montgomery Regional Hospital security
officer Derrick McFarland was put on
the back burner:
I am also appalled at the almost
complete lack of sympathy being shown
for Mr. McFarland, the hospital
security guard that was killed. He was
unarmed but came to the aid of the
Deputy escorting Mr. Morva for
treatment and I think he is possibly
due more credit for his actions than
Mr. Sutphin....
News Seven's coverage of the services
for both men drew praise Thursday.
