forecasters by failing to pack the

strength some predicted it would.

(END SOT) A little wind.. and some rain.. but not

much of a storm.

Ernesto didn t have the strength to
roar ashore.. by the time it reached
southern florida.. the once threatening
hurricane was a weak tropical storm.

The wind blowing through the palms
topped at 45 miles per hour.. leaving
rain and the possibility of flooding as
the biggest worry.

other storms, last year we had much
more intense storms, and this one since
it was still just a tropical storm i
didn t think it would be that bad

With other places boarded up.. Ernesto
brought The Pizza Place on Fort
Lauderdale Beach brisk business.. (NAT)
and the rain didn t dampen spirits at
the bar next door.

But more than a thousand people in
Broward and Miami-Dade counties sought
refuge in shelters.. many not wanting
to take their chances in vulnerable
mobile homes.

BRIDGE: The state of Florida also wasn
t taking any chances.. with 500
National Guard members and another 500
state law enforcement officers ready to
respond to whatever Ernesto delivers.

Today hurricane-weary floridians are
for the most part breathing a sigh of
relief.. but Ernesto s rain could be a
problem for those still living under
blue tarps.

have to make sure the roofs don t leak,
and some people still have plastic over
their furniture

Forecasters expect Ernesto to move up
the middle of the state.. then out to
the atlantic.. where it again has the
chance to strengthen before hitting

The girls were seven and 11 when he
started taking advantage of them.

Last year the younger daughter found
Deaton on a sex offender registry in

Vinton Police rounded him up.

Deaton pled guilty and was sentenced
yesterday to 22 years in prison.

sore throats and colds. She suggests

he's treated some cases of stomach
viruses.

Doctor Moore says when your child is in

southern florida.. the once threatening
hurricane was a weak tropical storm.

The wind blowing through the palms
topped at 45 miles per hour.. leaving
rain and the possibility of flooding as
the biggest worry.

to take their chances in vulnerable
mobile homes.

BRIDGE: The state of Florida also wasn

National Guard members and another 500
state law enforcement officers ready to
respond to whatever Ernesto delivers.

Today hurricane-weary floridians are
for the most part breathing a sigh of
relief.. but Ernesto s rain could be a
problem for those still living under
blue tarps.

home in downtown Lynchburg.

Flames were spotted on the back
porch of 220 Madison Street just before
noon yesterday.

The fire quickly spread to the rest
of the three-story building and then
broke through the roof.

Firefighters had to evacuate. Part
of the roof eventually collapsed.

The 19th-century home has been an
apartment house for 80 years.

Six people were displaced by the
fire. One person was taken to the
hospital with unspecified injuries.
