officers say the Bassett area was the
worst hit last night.

Fire and rescue crews responded
to a home off Route 57- alternate after
the homeowner saw her dog house
disappear.

nearby storm drain runs beneath this

a result of the sink hole and neighbors
say the dog was not in the kennel when

degree murder made a brief court
appearance today.

have a preliminary hearing. The lawyers
agreed there was enough evidence for
the charges against her to be certified
to the grand jury.

Lance is accused of shooting and
killing 39 year-old Ken Henry of
Tennessee last month.

The murder occured at Lance's
Apartment an Davis Street.

Search warrants indicate she
originally confessed to the murder and
later told police her boyfriend, James
Jones shot Henry to rob him of money
and drugs.

huge with tons of numbers... to try and
simply it not easy... but there are a
few highlights.

Behind Act...if students are not doing
up to par in reading or math- a school
may not make the grade. The school
would come under sanctions.. in other
words parents could transfer their
child to another school.. tutors may be
available... steps are taken to ensure
"no child is left behind."

It then takes two years of making
the grade for these schools to come out

of the sanctions...

It's not just individual schools
that are rated.. but overall districts
as well-

18 school systems in our region
made AYP- from Alleghany, Botetourt
and Campbell Counties

. to Danville, Lynchburg and
Pittsyvania Counties...

as well as Roanoke County, Salem
and Tazewell County.

Meanwhile more than a dozen
districts in this region.. did NOT made
Adequate Yearly progress... 14
districts

including Carroll, Craig and Giles
Counties... as well as Henry County,
Roanoke City and Rockbridge County.
