GRAPHIC=Fire VA Medical Center in Salem for the


second time this month.

This time it was a smoldering
laundry basket in a basement linen room
that set off a sprinkler, and sent
smoke into the west side of Building
Two.

No one was injured, and the fire
was extinguished quickly, but hospital
officials did relocate some patients on
the second and third floors as a
precaution. They were moved back in
about an hour.

accused of helping his brother William

Morva escape from jail.

Sunday morning, August 20th,
Michael was charged with possession of
marijuana and conspiracy to help an
inmate escape.

According to the arrest warrant,
though, the conspiracy charge was for
an offense that happened in January.

Michael's employer, Nino
Ceritano, Sarah-tuh-no doesn't believe
he was involved with his brother's
escape.

donated 50-percent of its profits and
all its tips Wednesday to the families
of fallen officers Derrick McFarland
and Eric Sutphin.

People came out in full force to

collected.

law enforcement community say they are
overwhelmed by the response.

The y-W-c-a in Dowtown Roanoke
says it will let New Fitness members
use their facility for two months for
free.

Classes in the pool are extra, but
thre's no charge for using the gym and
the pool.

of First and Franklin in downtown
Roanoke.

Pittsylvania county was the scene of a
stabbing yesterday afternoon .

It happened around 2:45 at the
Blairs Community Center.


A school resource officer
reported a fight inside the gym.

He found a 14-year-old student with a
puncture wound in the right armpit.

The victim is a student at Hope
Haven School, which is part of the
community center.

The officer took a 15-year-old
suspect into custody.

That teenager was attending a Job
Readiness Training Program, also housed
in the building.

Identities of the two teenagers
are being withheld by the sheriff's
department.

bank robber will spend the next 25
years behind bars.

42-year-old Randall Scott Mason
admitted to robbing the Suntrust Bank

on Timberlake Road January 23rd.

After his arrest, Mason also told
police he'd robbed a Lynchburg
convenience store nine days earlier.

Authorities say Mason committed the
crimes to support his drug habit.

Two men who shared in the proceeds
of the bank robbery are already serving
time for grand larceny.
