GRAPHIC=Holiday Travel Virginia State Police are warning
motorists traveling this holiday
weekend to be extra careful.
Tropical Storm Ernesto poses many
potential hazards including heavy rain
and high water.
Superintendent Colonel Steven
Flaherty says Labor Day weekend is
traditionally the third deadliest
holiday for traffic crashes in the
nation.
Travelers should allow extra time
for travel, comply with the posted
speed limit, and keep headlights on
when windshield wipers are in use.
Police also say not to drive
through flood waters and to be sure to
have enough fuel.
For the latest road conditions,
drivers can dial 5-1-1 from their cell
phones.

GRAPHIC=Ernesto Governor Tim Kaine declared a
state of emergency for Virginia
yesterday in advance of the storm.
He also has deployed two State
Police swift water rescue teams.

The 15 member team arrived last night
and rescurers says their biggest
concern are motorists driving through
flooded roadways.

tomorrow for the team's first game of
the season.

stadium got a nearly 15 million dollar
makeover.
Fans will find new seats,
handrails and concession stands.
It's the first major renovation
in more than 15 years.
In late September, a new million
dollar score board will be installed.

GRAPHIC=Severe Weather Wednesday night's rain left quite
a mark on parts of Southside.

Henry County officials say the
most significant damage happened in and
around Bassett.
This sink hole behind a home off
route 57 alternate remained taped off
through the day.
Neighbors say nobody was hurt and
the dog that called this area home was
not inside the doghouse when the ground
gave way.
Residents living close to the
sink hole say they did lose power for a
short time last night and yesterday
afternoon, but there were no major
outages reported in the area.

appeared in court yesterday in Radford.

:00 22 year-old Kelly Lance did not
have a preliminary hearing.
The lawyers agreed there was enough
evidence for the charges against her to
be certified to the grand jury.
Lance is accused of shooting and
killing 39 year-old Ken Henry of
Tennessee last month.
The murder occured at Lance's
Apartment on Davis Street.
Search warrants indicate she
originally confessed to the murder and
later told police her boyfriend, James
Jones shot Henry to rob him of money
and drugs.
