morning, where Ernesto is pelting the
region with wind- driven rain.
The storm is blamed for at least one
traffic death in Virginia.
It also knocked out power to nearly
189- thousand customers.
Ernesto has been downgraded from a
tropical storm to a tropical
depression.
No matter how it's classified, it's
still providing a wet start to the
Labor Day Weekend.

slowly over land now...still packing
strong winds and dropping buckets of
rain as it threatens north carolina and
points north. Wind driven downpours
have forced evacuations.. And knocked
out power to hundreds of thousands of

made landfall for the 2nd time in the
U-S late Thursday night....near Cape
Fear, North Carolina.. An area already

Carolina Ernesto's winds were just
short of hurricane status, and while
there are no reports of extensive
damage� there is plenty of water...up
to 7 inches of rain in some places that
left roads and property under water.

lot of flooding, our backyard is just
flooded out right now." While the
mid-Atlantic gets soaked, what a
difference a day makes further south.

Charleston, they've already dried out
and expect a beautiful holiday weekend.
That will not the case in the Northeast
where Ernesto could washout one of the
most important weekends of the year for
merchants at the beach. (natz) As for
the Carolinas....people in shelters
will be heading home and some schools
will be open again.... Ernesto has come
and gone...and luckily will be
remembered mostly as a potential
disaster that never unfolded� But it
remains to be seen if luck will hold
out for other areas in the storm's path

Iranian state television reports
the Russian- made T-U-154 was carrying
147 passengers.

of Tehran, is visited by 12- million
people annually on pilgrimages to its
Shiite Islamic shrines.

Pittsyvania Counties...
as well as Roanoke County, Salem

Meanwhile more than a dozen
