GRAPHIC=Shooting A shooting in Danville sent two

men to the hospital early this morning.

At around 1:00 police received a
911 call from a motorist claiming that
he had two shooting victims in the car.

Shortly thereafter police stopped
the vehicle on Central Boulevard and
both men were transported to the
Danville Regional Medical Center.

Police say they believe the men
were shot with a shotgun in the 2100
block of North Main Street.

One of the victims, a 24-year-old
from Chatham sustained injuries to the
face.

The second victim, a 20-year-old
from Danville, suffered leg injuries.
Both are listed in stable condition.

Police are not releasing any
names and the investigation is
continuing.

harvest for some Virginia vineyards, by
ruining grapes and delaying production.

good harvest this year.

Thanks to the dry weather this
summer, growers were anticipating a
sweeter, more robust flavored grape.

But heavy rains could change
that.

Too much moisture can cause the
grapes to swell and rupture.

According to the U-S Department
of Agriculture, Virginia grape

growers gathered 56-hundred tons of
commercial grapes in 2005.

That's up more than 50- percent

from the previous year.

six children early Sunday morning in

Chicago.

It's believed a candle burning in
the hallway sparked the blaze.

living in the third floor apartment has
been without electricity-service for at
least a month and had been using
candles for light.

A neighbor ran up to the burning
apartment and rescued one child.

When the fire fighters arrived on
the scene, they saw one child at a
window of the apartment and rescued the
child by ladder.

Other firefighters found children
huddled together in the front room of
the apartment not far from where the
fire was started.

A witness says he and others
tried to coax one kid and an adult to
jump into a blanket.

accident last spring.

Harrington had just finished installing
an antenna on this radio tower last
March when the cable they were being
lowered with broke.

Both men fell about 30 feet.

The fall killed Harrington.

Investigators found the wire-
ropes the two men used as a life- line
did not meet required standards.

The men were also attached to the
same line, and should have each had
their own.

No citations were issued though
because Harrington was the sole owner
of the company.

GRAPHIC=Shooting Two men were shot in Danville

early this morning.

At around 1:00 police received a
911 call from a motorist claiming that
he had two shooting victims in the car.

Shortly thereafter police stopped
the vehicle on Central Boulevard and
both men were transported to the
Danville Regional Medical Center.

Police say that they believe that
the men were shot with a shotgun in the
2100 block of North Main Street.

One of the victims, a 24-year-old
from Chatham sustained injuries to the

face. The second victim, a 20-year-old
from Danville, suffered leg injuries.
Both are listed in stable condition.

Police are not releasing any
names and the investigation is
continuing.

to be the cause a fatal fire that
claimed the lives of six children early
Sunday morning in Chicago.

living in the third floor apartment has
been without electricity-service for at
least a month and had been using
candles for light.

A neighbor ran up to the burning
apartment and rescued one child.

When the fire fighters arrived on
the scene, they saw one child at a
window of the apartment and rescued the
child by ladder.

Other firefighters found children
huddled together in the front room of
the apartment not far from where the
fire was started.

A witness says he and others
tried to coax one kid and an adult to
jump into a blanket.

HINES-burger and 60-year-old Gregory
Harrington had just finished installing
an antenna on this radio tower last
March when the cable they were being
lowered with broke.

Both men fell about 30 feet.

The fall killed Harrington.

Investigators found the wire-
ropes the two men used as a life- line
did not meet required standards.

The men were also attached to the
same line, and should have each had
their own.

No citations were issued though
because Harrington was the sole owner
of the company.

The initial investigation suggests the
pilots were trying to take off from the
wrong runway. That brought this
comment from Jeff Pauley:

A commercial flight is under the
direction of air traffic control from
the airport's tower and pilots can do
little without their
permission/direction in the air or on
the ground. Didn't the ATC staff see
that the plane was turning onto the
wrong runway?

We now know the lone controller on duty
that morning had looked away to attend
to some paperwork, once he cleared the
plane for take-off.

Steve Smallshaw's stories about local
National Guard soldiers training for
active duty in Kosovo brought a note of
appreciation from one mother:

Thank you so much for reporting on our
soldiers deployed to Kosovo and
currently in training in Indiana. My
son Sgt. James Gerlinger, age 22, has
been proud to belong to the 116th
Infantry for the last five years. This
is his second overseas deployment, the
first having been Guantanamo Bay
several years ago. It means more to me
than you will know, to have our
"hometown" station keep us in touch
with our "hometown" boys.

GRAPHIC=Shooting A shooting in Danville sent two

men to the hospital early this morning.

At around 1:00 police received a
911 call from a motorist claiming that
he had two shooting victims in the car.

Shortly thereafter police stopped
the vehicle on Central Boulevard and
both men were transported to the

Danville Regional Medical Center.

Police say they believe the men
were shot with a shotgun in the 2100
block of North Main Street.

One of the victims, a 24-year-old
from Chatham sustained injuries to the
face. The second victim, a 20-year-old
from Danville, suffered leg injuries.
Both are listed in stable condition.

Police are not releasing any
names and the investigation is
continuing.

six children early Sunday morning in
Chicago.

It's believed a candle burning in
the hallway sparked the blaze.

Neighbors say that the family
living in the third floor apartment has
been without electricity-service for at
least a month and had been using
candles for light.

A neighbor ran up to the burning
apartment and rescued one child.

When the fire fighters arrived on
the scene, they saw one child at a
window of the apartment and rescued the
child by ladder.

Other firefighters found children
huddled together in the front room of
the apartment not far from where the
fire was started.

A witness says he and others
tried to coax one kid and an adult to
jump into a blanket.

harvest for some Virginia vineyards, by
ruining grapes and delaying production.

Wine producers had predicted a
good harvest this year.

Thanks to the dry weather this
summer, growers were anticipating a
sweeter, more robust flavored grape.

But heavy rains could change
that.

Too much moisture can cause the
grapes to swell and rupture.

According to the U-S Department
of Agriculture, Virginia grape

growers gathered 56-hundred tons of
commercial grapes in 2005.

That's up more than 50- percent
from the previous year.

Now here's a look at today's top local
stories.

A shooting in Danville sent two
men to the hospital early this morning.

Police say they believethe men
were shot with a shotgun in the 2100
block of North Main Street.

One of the victims, a 24-year-old
from Chatham sustained injuries to the
face. The second victim, a 20-year-old
from Danville, suffered leg injuries.
Both are listed in stable condition.

spring that killed 60-year-old Gregory
Harrington and injured 48-year-old
Michael Hinsberger HINES-burger.
