The Smithsonian Institution's
National Museum of American History
will close tomorrow to begin a two-year
renovation.

The museum houses the original
Star-Spangled banner that inspired the
national anthem and the inaugural ball
gowns worn by America's first ladies.

Many of the items will be relocated
to the building's wings for safekeeping
away from the construction dust.

Other items are being moved to
facilities elsewhere in the Washington
area or are on loan to the

Smithsonian's partners.
