Wilson was using a cherry picker to
install new electrical lines to a
chemical building at the Martinsville
water treatment plant.
That's when another electrician
working below noticed Wilson was

believe a fatal shooting today was the
result of a domestic dispute.

Deputies say Chrystal Hopkins
called 9-1-1 around 8:00 this morning
to report a shooting at 1304 Muddy Fork
Road.
Investigators believe she shot
her husband 38-year-old Nicholas
Hopkins.
Deputies say Hopkins' daughter
15-year-old Diana DEE-anna Brown was
also shot during the dispute.
Nicholas Hopkins died at the
hospital and the teenage daughter was
flown to Roanoke Memorial for emergency
surgery.
Investigators say Chrystal
Hopkins claims the shooting was in self
defense.
She was charged with malicious
wounding and use of a firearm to commit
a felony.

GRAPHIC=Indictments A Roanoke grand jury has indicted
54 people on 60 drug-related charges as
a result of an undercover drug
operation.
Operation Blindside took place
over several months earlier this year.
During the operation, officers
observed and identified people buying
and selling drugs.
Undercover officers also sold
imitation drugs and immediately
arrested the buyers.
The operation focused on the Hurt
Park and Afton Gardens areas.
Martinsville and Salem police
assisted Roanoke with the operation.

suspect in two of the eight murders and
11 sexual assaults in Phoenix over the
past year.

two sisters, ages 21 and 23, who were
sexually assaulted last September
during a nighttime walk in a park in
southwest Phoenix.
Police say they have forensic evidence
to connect 41-year-old Mark Goudeau to

the Baseline rapist case.

results of legislation introduced by
Roanoke Delegate William Fralin.
When it comes to crime, 68-
percent of schools report they meet
regularly with police about their
discipline reports.
50- percent let teachers and
students report those crimes
anonymously.
Less than half of the schools
that responded screen their
volunteers-- something Delegate Fralin
would like to see change.
He even recommends distinguishing
between volunteers who have children in
school from those who don't.

Ralph Sampson did enter a guilty plea
in federal court in Richmond today and
as result he was sentenced to two
months in jail on charges stemming from
disputes over his payments of child
support. Sampson said he never
intended to violate the law or ignore
the values he learned from his parents
while growing up in Harrisonburg.
