enforcement officers, has made his
first court appearance.

A judge granted the defense
attorney's request Wednesday.

Morva is charged with capital
murder in the death of security officer
Derrick McFarland.

He's also accused in the shooting
death of Corporal Eric Sutphin, but has
not been formally charged.

Morva is due in court next month
for a preliminary hearing.

is a result of more people wanting to
get the shot because of new
recommendations.

than many people think.

It has actually been shipped
overseas from here in the U-S for

years.

The House of Representatives
passed legislation that would ban the
slaughter of horses for sale as meat.

The legislation seeks to close a
loophole that allowed the practice to
go on longer than Congress had
intended.

It was banned last year, but the
Bush administration began charging
plants for the inspections instead.

County left one man dead and a teenager
wounded.

Chrystal Hopkins was taken into
custody yesterday morning, after
investigators say she shot and killed
her husband 38 year-old Nicholas
Hopkins.

Chrystal's daughter 15-year-old
Diana DEE-ana Brown was also shot

during the incident.

Brown was airlifted to Roanoke
Memorial, and deputies say she is in
stable condition.

Investigators charged Hopkins
with malicious wounding and use of a
firearm to commit a felony.

But at this point, they have not
charged Hopkins with anything related
to the death of her husband.

Junior and his three-year-old brother
Jacob were reported missing Tuesday
from their grandparents' home in Stokes
County.

the nearby banks of the Dan River.

Specialized dive teams with
underwater cameras are helping with the
search.


About 200 people helped look for
the boys yesterday.

Most of them hiked or rode
horseback to search the terrain near
the river, while others used canoes and
flatbed boats.

GRAPHIC=Indictments A Roanoke grand jury has indicted


54 people on 60 drug-related charges as
a result of an undercover drug
operation.

Operation Blindside took place
over several months earlier this year.

During the operation, officers
observed and identified people buying
and selling drugs.

Undercover officers also sold
imitation drugs and immediately
arrested the buyers.

The operation focused on the Hurt
Park and Afton Gardens areas.

Martinsville and Salem police
assisted Roanoke with the operation.
