That was the situation this morning
for the Space Shuttle Atlantis crew
members.
NASA scrubbed today's scheduled
launch, because of problems with a fuel
tank sensor.
The decision came as the six
astronauts were all on board and
strapped in.
But as Drew Levinson tells us, NASA
now hopes to get Atlantis off the
ground tomorrow.

(Astronauts being put in shuttle)
NASA's six astronauts were strapped in
and ready..
(shot of shuttle)
..And the Space Shuttle Atlantis was
all fueled up set to go.
But in what now has become common for
this mission--the launch was
scrubbed.
This morning engineers discovered a
failure in one of the external
tanks' four hydrogen fuel gauges.
It's a similar glitch to one that has
plagued the agency in the
past.and if it has to be repaired it
could trigger a long delay.
So engineers are now trying to see if
they're comfortable going with it
as is.
(STANDUP: DREW LEVINSON/KENNEDY SPACE
CENTER)
IF THEY DO FEEL THEY CAN GO WITH THE
GAUGE..THEY'LL TRY IT AGAIN ON
SATURDAY--AND THAT'S THE LAST DAY OF
THIS LAUNCH WINDOW.IF THAT'S A NO
GO--THEY'LL BE FORCED TO WAIT UNTIL
UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH, BUT MORE
LIKELY LATE OCTOBER.
Since the beginning of the launch
window two weeks ago this mission to
the international space station has
been "snake-bit".
The first attempt was halted because of
a lightening strike at the
Launch Pad.then there was the threat
of Tropical Storm Ernesto and
earlier this week the mission was
scrubbed because of a faulty fuel
cell.
In fact it took all day Thursday to
make the call to " go " today, with
that defective cell and the space
agency still admitted there was a
risk.
But apparently going with the faulty
gauge was just too risky and that
could mean Atlantis won't make it into
space this week.

season is over.
The hottest team in baseball in
the month of August - simply went ice
cold when it counted in SEPTEMBER.
Starting pitching let the team
down for the second straight night, as
Kinston swept the best two out of
three- game series-- shutting out the
Avs 5 to nothing last night in Kinston.
Kinston is now the Southern
Division Champ.

Staff at the Yongin, South Korea
park say 16-year-old Kosik can imitate
up to eight Korean words, including
"sit," "no," "yes," and "lie down."
Kosik produces the human-like sounds
by putting his trunk in his mouth, and
shaking it while exhaling.
It is unclear if the animal knows
the meaning of the sounds he makes.
But a vet at the zoo says elephants
are excellent mimics.
He knew of another elephant that
could sound just like a truck.
