the fifth anniversary of 9-11, but
tonight in Roanoke, people are
remembering a day earlier.

The American flag anchored by two
ladder trucks hung above the city
market area, as husbands, wives,
fathers ..sons.... police and
firefighters came from all over the
region.

The sounds of the Roanoke College
Children's Choir filled the air- while
most held hands, and reflected on a day
that no one will ever forget.

A big part of the ceremony
centered around law enforcement
officers who lined the streets, paying
tribute to their distant colleagues who
lost their lives five years ago.

men supposed to be enjoying a thrill,
fell to their deaths.

Initial reports indicate that an
instructor and first-time jumper were
doing a tandem skydiving jump in New
Jersey when somehow their main
parachute became severed. After the
backup parachute failed, they continued
to free fall, eventually crashing
through a power line and landing in a
front yard.

An upsetting situation no doubt, but
witnesses say what made it worse was
the fact that the company resumed
lessons within the hour.

According to a Philadelphia station in
July of 2005 two eperienced jumpers

died when their parachutes got
entangled after they jumped out of one

an ally after our story about the fight
over its athletic logo. Darlene Oliver
went to Shawsville high school and

Our nickname was the Shawnees. This
name signified strength, fierceness and
boldness. So, what's offensive about

and their use of "The Tribe". The NCAA
should stick to athletic rules and
regulations and not involve themselves
in school administrative matters!

Fisheries' ban on deer feeding got a

I guess next it will be illegal to feed
birds and squirrels in our yards since
they are "wild animals." I bet Virginia
