anniversary of 9/11 with a statewide
moment of silence at the Capitol Square
in Richmond at 9:37 A-M, followed by
the ringing of the Square's bell.

A memorial took place in Roanoke
last night.

The American flag anchored by two
ladder trucks hung above the city
market area, as husbands, wives,
fathers and sons came from all over the
region.

The sounds of the Roanoke College
Children's Choir filled the air- while
most held hands, and reflected on a day
that no one will ever forget.

A big part of the ceremony
centered around law enforcement
officers who lined the streets, paying
tribute to their distant colleagues who
lost their lives five years ago.

But 39- percent of those
polled said they'll treat it as a
normal day.

18 percent said they'll visit
a memorial or church.

And a quarter said they'll
spend the day with family and friends.

nine year-old boy.

reported missing at around eight
Saturday night.

Police say he was found at a
neighbor's house Sunday morning.

Jermaine was in good health and
was later reunited with his mother.

They fell short of their goal of

closing in on the commanding lead that
Republican Senator George Allen once
had.

found 46 percent of those interviewed
supported Allen and 42 percent backed
Webb.

Twelve percent were
undecided..and the margin of error for
this poll is plus or minus four
percentage points...

Travelling back in time, in a
Mason-Dixon poll conducted in late
July, the numbers were a little
different. 48 percent backed Allen, 32
percent preferred Webb and 20 percent
were undecided.
