September Eleventh, 2001 as a wake-up
call... one that set off a global war
on terrorism.
Five years into that war, a
News-7 Survey U-S-A poll suggests the
outcome is still up in the air.
ENG#=3 VO-NAT
VO-NAT Area residents were almost
evenly split when asked who's winning
the war-- 42 percent said the U- S,
while 40-percent said the terrorists.
That same survey found a lot
of dissatisfaction with President
Bush's handling of the war.
57-percent said they
dissaproved.

The two now familiar beams of light
towered above the New York skyline..
as the nation wound down a day of
remembrance.
From the Oval Office President Bush..
renewed his pledge to track down
the al-qaida leader behind the 9/11
attacks.. and called for unity
fighting the war on terror.
BUSH 21:15:11 we must put aside our
differences, and work together to
meet the test that history has given
us.
His prime time marks remarks also
included an appeal for support of the
Iraq war.
BUSH 21:08:20 Whatever mistakes have
been made in Iraq, the worst
mistake would be to think that if we
pulled out, the terrorists would
leave us alone. They will not leave us
alone.
The increasingly unpopular Iraq war and
its relationship to the broader
struggle against terrorism.. is central
in upcoming midterm elections.
Its sparked bitter partisan battles
inside the capitol.. that DID get a
reprieve Monday.
(NAT-god bless america)
Republicans and democrats joined
together just as they did September
11th, 2001.. while those charged with
studying the governments action
before and after the attack expressed
frustration with both parties.
(Tom Kean, Co-Chairman 9/11 Commission)
KEAN 12:20:50 if everybody in Congress
is for all 41 recommendations,
what happened? How come they're not
passed? How come the country isn't
moving further on these things?"
A reminder from the 9/11 commission
theres more work to do.. five years
after the worst terrorist attack on U-S
soil.
CLOSE: Today on Capitol Hill the
Homeland Security Secretary testifies
before a Senate panel on whats being
done to safeguard the nation for
