Witnesses say four men shouting "allah
Akbar" -- God is Great -- opened
fire, hurled grenades and tried to set
off a car bomb outside the US
Embassy in Damascus.
Footage shows gas canisters with what
appear to be detonators attached
to them.
The assault sparked a gunbattle with
Syrian security forces. Syrian
officials say their anti-terror squads
killed three gunmen.. a fourth
militant is said to be in custody.
a Syrian security guard was killed, and
around a dozen bystanders
injured.. But No Americans were hurt.
As is the case at most American
embassies...local forces patrol outside
while US Marines protect embassy
personnel INSIDE.
In a time of high tenstion between the
us and syria.. secretary of
State Condoleeza Rice was quick to
praise the foreign forces for saving
American lives.

it comes as American officials accuse
Syria of having a hand in the
insurgency in Iraq...and of arming
Hezbollah fighters in neighboring
Lebanon during the recent conflict with
Israel.
It also comes just a day after the five
year anniversary of the 9-11
attacks.

Authorities believe the pilot lost
his bearings after flying into the

seconds later.

Twenty-one-year-old Jennifer Leigh
Wells of Charlottesville died
on Sunday.
School officials say Wells was
rushed to the University of Virginia
Medical Center on Friday after
collapsing at her parents' home.
Health officials have contacted
those who had been in close contact
with Wells, and have given them
antibiotics.
Under state law, students are
vaccinated against bacterial
meningitis.
But the vaccine is not 100-percent
effective, because
there are five strains of the disease.

woes in the Raleigh-Durham area are

Last Season J.J. officially pleaded guilty to
drunken driving charges yesterday, and
as a result his license was suspended
for 60 days in the state of North
Carolina.
He also received 1 year of
un-supervised probation, 24 hours of
community service, and he willl have to
pay just over 4-hundred dollars in
Court Costs.
This all stems from a June 13th
arrest, after Redick made an illegal
U-Turn as he approached a License
check-point.
Redick told a North Carolina
Newspaper that he is just relieved
it's over, and that he learned a
valuable lesson.

Things didn't get off to a great
start for the Redskins, as former Hokie
Pierson Prioleau (PRAY-LOW) - went down
without any contact on the opening
kickoff.
And he left with his right knee in
a full brace.
One player, who had been injured
all pre-season, Clinton Portis, scored
the team's only touchdown of the game.
Portis finished with 39 yards on
10 carries.
This one was all tied up at
16-all in the closing minutes, when the
Vikings' Ryan Longwell hit a 31 yard
field goal with one minute to play,
giving the Vikings a 19-to-16 lead.

yesterday.
Against Carolina he carried the
ball a career- high 22 times for 111
yards, and scored a career-high three
touchdowns.
Ore is known for having one of
the best jump- cuts in Blacksburg since
Lee Suggs.
