wounded after a gunman opens fire on a
Montreal college campus.

Terrified students ran from
Dawson College as the gunfire erupted
in the cafeteria.

The gunman was described by
witnesses and police as in his late
teens, wearing a black trench coat with
a mohawk haircut.

Officers shot and killed the
gunman a short time later.

Police have not said what a
motive might be but they are dismissing
suggestions that race or terrorism
played a role in the attack.

Startz is charged with first
degree murder.

This morning in court, the judge
granted a request from Startz's
attorney for another mental evaluation.

The defense attorney said Startz
was taking a prescribed antidepressant
but stopped taking it on his own before
the alleged murder.

September 7 A Franklin county woman who says
she shot her husband in self-defense
has been charged with first-degree
murder.

Chrystal Hopkins allegedly shot
her husband, Nick, outside their home
on Muddy Fork Road.

She told investigators that her
husband said he was going inside to get
a gun.

They say she pulled a handgun out
of a pickup truck and started shooting
first.

A ricocheted bullet struck
Chrystal Hopkins' 15-year old daughter
Dianna in the stomach.

industrial plant sent three people to
the hospital this morning.

Around 9:30, firefighters got a
call to what sounded like an explosion
inside the Parker Powertrain plant on
Mayflower Drive.

Authorities say a malfunction in
an industrial oven caused a fireball
that spread to two other machines.

Between the sprinkler system and
firefighters, it was under control in
about ten minutes.

Three employees were sent to the
hospital to be checked for smoke
inhalation and more than 100 others
were sent home for the day.

Early admissions allows high school
students to apply in November and
receive a decision before Christmas.
But they have to agree not to apply
early at any other schools.

Like Harvard, Roanoke College is a
small private school, but unlike the
highly selective ivy league school
Roanoke College only admits about 10
percent of it's freshman through early
admissions for main reason.

Virginia Tech to fulfill a lease by
paying tens of thousands of dollars.

The "Y" used to be located at the
Gables Shopping Center along South Main
Street which Kroger bought last year.

That's when the Y-M-C-A board
chair says Kroger representatives told
her the non-profit's lease would
probably NOT be renewed at the reduced
rate they were used to.

So folks with the Y moved the
organization to a new location.

Now, Lesko says Kroger officials
are demanding the Y-M-C-A finish out
their lease by paying all of their rent
through February.

That would be a payment of 30-
thousand dollars.
