looking for intruders who assaulted a
man in his home on Monday night.
18-year-old Brian Shantaye Martin
was discovered in his home on Birchwood
Road in Axton by a relative on Tuesday
afternoon
He had sustained injuries to his
face and hands and was taken to the
hospital.
His home appeared to have been
ransacked and more than two-hundred
dollars in cash and electronic
equipment were stolen. Police say there
was no sign of forced entry.
Due to his condition, Martin has
been unable to speak with authorities.

These Naval Academy graduates
want the public to know about an
article Jim Webb wrote in 1979 called
"Women Can't Fight."
In it, Webb wrote, "no benefit to
anyone can come from women serving in
combat."
In a statement yesterday, the
Democrat said, "I am completely
comfortable with the roles of women in
today's military."
But the women say the article
added fuel to the discrimination they
were already facing at the academy in
the early 80's.

Meanwhile George Allen is
catching fire from a group of Iraq and
Afghanistan war veterans.
They started airing this ad
yesterday criticizing Allen for voting
against a billion-dollar amendment that
would have been used to buy modern body
armor for National Guard and Army
Reservists.
An Allen spokesman calls the ad a
"lie."
He says the senator who sponsored
the amendment never mentioned the money
would go towards buying body armor.

Virginia Tech are upset Kroger is
demanding they pay tens of thousands of
dollars for breaking a lease.

The "Y" used to be located at the
Gables Shopping Center along South Main
Street which Kroger bought last year.
That's when the Y-M-C-A board
chair Holly Lesko says Kroger
representatives told her the lease
would probably NOT be renewed at the
reduced rate they were used to.
So they moved.
Now, Lesko says Kroger officials
are demanding the Y-M-C-A finish out
their lease by paying all of their rent
through February.
That would be a payment of 30-
thousand dollars.

Harvard University says it will
eliminate its early admissions program
because it puts poor and minority
students at a disadvantage

Education 7 anim liberal-arts college school is getting
the O-K to operate in Virginia.
The State Council for Higher
Education of Virginia is allowing
Founders College to open in fall 2007.
They plan to locate the campus in
Campbell County near Lynchburg.
It hopes to have about 140
students in September 2007 and about
700 students five years later.
But the school won't base
admissions decisions on Scholastic
Aptitude Test scores or Advanced
Placement exam results.
Instead it will consider
applicants' high-school transcripts,
course content and evaluations by
teachers and counselors.

lives of Jeffrey Kaylor and Tim Price,
