GRAPHIC=FFE Good evening everybody and

welcome to Friday Football Extra on
this the fourth week of the regular
season.

A beautiful night for football
and in the next 30 plus minutes we'll
bring you the highlights of 13 games
and the emotions of several communities
in central and southwest Virginia.

Also, don't forget - someone will
get qualified for the all expense trip
to the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship
games tonight.

We begin tonight with a battle of
teams in our Super 7 poll - Amherst
County and George Washington.

These two used to butt heads in
the Western district, and while tonight
was a non-district game - it was just
as intense.

*CG ffeloc Amherst

George Washington vs. Amherst Co. Amherst is the first and only :00 public school in the area with the
ultra nice and super modern field turf
for its playing surface.

In the first quarter, GW's T.J.
Price would find the turf and the air
tough to get used to as his pass is
picked off by Rodney Gibson, and he
will turn the pick into prime field
position for his offense.

That turnover would lead to this
Alonzo Poe to Jonathan Rose touchdown
as Rose rolls in for the touchdown to
put the Lancers on top 7-to-nothing.

Later in the first, Rose would
get another shot, but this time he
loses the handle and fumbles. GW's
Justin Ferrell recovers for the Eagles
to stop that drive. *CG ffefinal George Washington
17 Now in the second,Amherst would Amherst Co. let Rose redeem himself - but he loses 7 the handle again, and this time Larry
Clayborne recovers for the Eagles.

Those turnovers would eventually
kill the Lancers as they lose it 17
to7.

Franklin Co. vs. Pulaski Co. The Cougars were trying to get a :00 much needed win before the start of
district play.

On the opening kickoff, Franlin
County's J.T. Edwards can't handle the
kick, but he recovers right before the
defenders put the wood on him and wrap
him up as the Eagles avoid a big mess.

He would try to make amends later
in the drive on this third down, but as
he turns the cover he gets drilled by
the Cougars' defense as Benji
Poindexter lowers the boom on him.

Then Poindexter would do some

work of his own on offense.

This time he carries the ball and
jukes his way through a couple of would
be tacklers to pick up a Cougar first
down.

But Franklin County would hold
and turn Edwards loose again. This
time he drags up to five Cougars'
defenders for eight yards on the carry.

touchdown. It's now 14-to-7 Salem in
front.

At the beginning of the second
quarter of play - Salem is driving
again. But the Terriers' Chris Dooley
with some great concentration will snag
Hanabury's pass right out of the air to
stop the Salem drive.

The Spartans would get the ball
back thought and Brandon Grigsby would
div ein from the one to push the Salem

up the night with Will Hon Barrier. He
pases to Justin Engledove, he can't
handle it

but his teammate Mark Carter can as he
completes the tip drill with the
reception.

A few plays later - Hon Barrier
tries to hit another pass, but it's
picked off by Trent Sparks.

Glass wins it 14 to 8.

GRAPHIC=PLAYER OF THE WEEK The Gretna Hawks have had a run

of successful coaches recently,
starting with Robert Prunty to Robert
Senseney to Chris Thurman.

They also are developing a good
run on Quarterbacks, going from Vic
Hall to our most recent Friday Football
Extra Player of the Week, Tyon Bennett. HEINERS FULL SCREEN

Not suprisingly, Tyon is a
numbers guy - whose favorite subject is

Geometry. He devours pizza, idolizes
Reggie Bush and loves to listen to 50

Our Big Money Grant Kittelson has
the story of this week's Heiner's Slice

OQ=Friday Football Extra << Vic Hall is currently listed at 5
(END SOT) Feet 9 inches in the University of

Virginia Program. But the shadow that
he casts on the Gretna Football team is
much bigger.

Hall led the Hawks to back to
back State Championship seasons without
a loss.

It took 2 players to replace Hall
a season ago one of those was Tyon
Bennett who has taken over the starting
job all to himself this season

(THURMAN BITE:)

His performance in the Hawks
game against Dan River has already put
himself in a category that Hall never
reached. Bennett was part of 8
Touchdowns. 6 on the ground 2 through
the air.

(THURMAN BITE:)

(BENNETT BITE:)

With 4 more touchdowns coming
with his legs you would think that
running is what Bennett likes best, you

would be wrong.

(BENNETT BITE:)

But as impressive as the stats
are, the night was not perfect as
Bennett actually threw for another
Touchdown, that one went to the other
team.

(BENNETT)

(THURMAN)

Tyon will no doubt learn from
that mistake and make the proper
correction, that learning process will
be neccessary if he wants to follow Vic
Hall's Path to playing football in
college. Bennett has been preparing
for that possibility with the help of
his current Head coach since before he
was a Varisty Football Player.

(BENNETT)

(THURMAN BITE:)

With the Preperations that have
been made on and off the field, The
Hawks could be enjoying another 2
Seasons of Football Success with a
Pretty Good Quarterback. In Gretna
Grant Kittelson Friday Football Extra.
