some Roanoke College Students.

Seven students were inside the
Sigma Chi House on campus around one

o'clock Saturday morning, when at least
one alarm went off.

All got out safely without
injury.

That wasn't the case in July,
when a carbon monoxide leak in a dorm
killed one man, and sent several others
to the hospital.

Shortly after that incident, the
college installed carbon monoxide
detectors in all of its buildings, and
that made the difference this time
around.

The Salem Fire Department is
still trying to determine what caused
the leak.

Until that happens and the
problem is fixed, men from the Sigma
Chi house have been relocated to
another home.

missing Missouri baby.

VO-NAT One-week old Abby Woods was taken

Friday afternoon.

According to police- a woman
entered the family home asking to use

the telephone.

She then turned on the child's
mother, slashing her throat and then
making off with the baby.

The mother is now recovering at a
hospital, but the family says they just
want the little girl back.

Search crews and national
guardsmen from around Missouri have
been scouring the area in hopes of
finding the child.

arrested after police say he kidnapped
a 14-year-old girl and kept her in a
booby-trapped bunker.

37-year-old Vinson Filyaw
fil-yaw, was arrested on an unrelated
sexual assault charge.

But police are saying
*technology* led to the teens rescue.

Elizabeth Shoaf show-oaf sent a
text message to her mother and Kershaw
County sheriff's deputies were able to
use cell towers to find the girl.

The sheriff says the teen appears
unharmed but is being evaluated at a
hospital.

-after police say her parents tried to
force her to have an abortion.

The 19-year-old says when she
told her parents she was pregnant and
they forced her in the car and were
taking her out of state to have an
abortion.

The teen was able to escape, when
they made a stop in New Hampshire.

The parents were arrested.

When police searched the vehicle,
they found rope, duct tape, scissors,

and a 22 caliber rifle.

The family support group threw a
welcome home party yesterday afternoon
for the 80th Training Division.

The Army Reserve soldiers were
treated to a free lunch and the use of
the facilities at Loch Haven Lake.

The soldiers, who were in Iraq
for a year, say they're happy to be
home safely, and getting reacquainted
with their families.

Officials have linked the e-coli
outbreak to a farm in California.

A new study shows Vitamin D may help
prevent pancreatic cancer.

Researchers looked at the long-term
health surveys of more than
122-thousand men and women. They found
that those who consumed 400
International Units of Vitamin D daily
reduced the risk of pancreatic cancer
by 43 percent.

Dr. John Rogers says the study is
promising but more research is still
needed to back it up.

classroom sets or on-line text books.

To avoid problems -- a backpack

Elementary is getting national
recognition for it's Walk for Life
Program aimed at fighting childhood
obesity. The program gives students a
pedometer during the school day to keep
track of steps and miles and determine
how far they could've walked around the
country. The program also translates
into the classroom. It's been such a
success it's now offered at other
Franklin County elementary schools.

Severe storms spawned a tornado
in southeast South Dakota leaving quite
a mess behind.

ENG=1 VO NAT

VO NAT The twister damaged homes,
toppled trees, power lines and
scattered debris across the area
yesterday. Barns, street lights, and
mailboxes were also destroyed in the
turbulent weather.

Many spent Saturday combining
efforts to salvage what they could.

Some residents say they feel
lucky to be alive because a huge tree
just missed their home.

This morning, most are thankful it
wasn't a lot worse.

VO NAT It's that time of year in the
Colorado Mountains where the snow can

come at any time; yesterday was that
time!

Snow started falling on the
Winter Park Ski Resort, west of Denver,
for most of the day Saturday.

The snow also hit other parts of
the central mountains, leaving as much
as a foot of snow or more in some
areas.

Operators of Winter Park say the
early snow is always welcome even if
opening day for the resort is still
about two months away.

bombings today in the northern Iraqi

truck bombing killed at least 18-people
and wounded another 55.

According to reports, one of two
men in the truck opened fire on
civilians before the vehicle blew up
near the city's criminal court.

A second attack targeted a joint
U-S-Iraqi patrol.

The patrol was reportedly rammed
by a suicide car bomb.

There were no casualties among
the soldiers, but at least three
bystanders were killed and eight others
wounded.

expanded United Nations peacekeeping
force tasked with upholding a
cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah

Italy will contribute 3,000

troops to the force and France will
send 2,000 troops to serve in Lebanon.

France will command the
peacekeeping force until early next
year, when Italy is to take over.
