Researchers at the U-S Public
Interest Research Group studied weather
stations in all 50- states.

In Roanoke, from January- to-
July of this year, they found the
average temperature was two- point- six
degrees above normal.

In Lynchburg, the average
temperature was nearly two- degrees
above normal.... normal temperatures
are calculated by looking at numbers
from 1971 to 2000.

Environmental science experts say
that Virginians can make a big
difference in temperatures by doing
little things ...like buying more fuel-
efficient vehicles or taking public
transportation when possible.

For 17 years, Roanoke's gays and
lesbians have made Elmwood Park their
rallying point to gain acceptance in
the community.

Roanoke, they say, is a good place
to live.

They believe the real problem is
in Richmond.

Some feel the proposed amendment
discriminates against gays and other
unmarried couples.

Critics of the measure say it's
simply another tool to get conservative

voters to the polls this fall. But the
gay and lesbian community hopes events
like this will help motivate their
supporters as well.
