This Morning Jonathan Utin YOU-tin appeared
briefly in Middletown Municipal Court
this morning.

Ohio authorities told the court
Utin "repeatedly had sex" with a young
girl during his visits with the girl's
family at Christmas and at other times.

The prosecutor asked the court to
set bond at 500-thousand dollars.

Utin's arraignment was continued
for a day, to give him time to find a

lawyer.

May 1999 Blacksburg Police, meantime, say
they started their own investigation of
Utin last week.

The chief says others came
forward before this story broke and
they are looking into the allegations.

Investigators say they will most
likely file LOCAL charges against Utin
in the next few weeks.

In the past, the department has
received a six thousand dollar grant
from the town, thanks to state funding,
for things like training, equipment of
public education...

This year, the town hasn't
decided whether the Fire Department
will receive the full amount....That's
because according to the town manager,
there are concerns among council the
money will instead be used for legal
fees in the lawsuit.

So Town Council is thinking about
splitting the money up among various
fire departments...and that may or may
not include Boones Mill.

The Fire Department wants to know

A tentative deal between the
White House and G-O-P senators has been
reached.

The argument has been plaguing
republicans for weeks, pitting one
against another.

The White House apparently
dropped language that would have eased
torture rules set by the Geneva
Conventions.

President Bush ultimately
believes the deal benefits everyone.

This week, the Blue Ridge Soaring
Society's annual glider competition is
taking place.

Unlike traditional airplanes,
gliders or "sailplanes" don't have
engines.

Another plane tows the glider
behind it, and once it reaches a
certain altitude, the glider is
released.

Competitors complete tasks and
are timed on how long it takes them to
finish.

One of the biggest challenges is
finding the right air current.

The competition ends Saturday.
