their own investigation into a retired
middle school teacher.

:00 65 year old Jonathan Utin was
arrested this week on a felony charge
that he inappropriately touched a 12
year old girl in Middletown Ohio.

Utin was a widely-known and liked
math and science teacher at Blacksburg
Middle School for more than 30 years.

He also managed the Shawnee Swim
Club in Blacksburg for 28 years and
volunteered as a Sunday school teacher
at Christ Episcopal Church.

Blacksburg Police searched his
home on Tuesday taking several items
including two computers, photos albums,
notes and letters and school yearbooks.

Lake have recovered the body of a 21-
year- old man who apparently drowned
there this afternoon.

Three friends were fishing near
Mariner's Landing in Bedford County,
when they decided to cool off in the
water. One of them got into trouble and
his friends were unable to save him.

Divers from Smith Mountain Lake
Marine Fire and Rescue found the man in
17 feet of water around 2:30 this
afternoon.

Authorities are not releasing his
name until relatives are notified.

owners of the club.

It was 2003 when 100 people died
in the fire and more than 200 were
hurt- when pyrotechnics during a band's
perfomance spread because of highly
flamable foam used for soundproofing
the stage..

The plea agreement means one of the
brothers who owned the club Jeffrey
Derderian (Der-dear-ian) won't spend
any time behind bars.

The other owner.. Michael Derderian
who bought the foam will spend four
years in prison.

This week, the Blue Ridge Soaring
Society's annual glider competition is
taking place over the skies of Craig
County.

Unlike traditional airplanes,
gliders or "sailplanes" don't have
engines.


Another plane tows the glider
behind it, and once it reaches a
certain altitude, the glider is
released.

Competitors complete tasks and
are timed on how long it takes them to
finish.

One of the biggest challenges is
finding the right air current.
