at around 1:50 in the morning to stop a
potential fight.

Zoo. First an animal escaped over the
summer, now there's word the zoo is in
danger of losing its accreditation.

the zoo was essentially put on

Today, the Association of Zoos and
Aquariums gave Mill Mountain Zoo a year
long extension to fix a number of
problems.

They include improving the zoo's
financial stability, addressing low

staff levels, as well as building a new
quarantine and health center.

To address these concerns, zoo
leaders say they need more money
especially from the city of Roanoke.

decision admission process.

The school made the announcement
today.

U-V-A becomes the third prominent

voicing their opinions on whether the
county should allow a new college to
make its home in Lynch Station.

searching for a place to start their
school, and they now have a contract on
the Merritt Hutchinson estate near
Lynch Station in southwestern Campbell
County.

The 1100-acre property was
developed five years ago by New York
real estate mogul Anne Hutchinson who
had envisioned it as a high-end, luxury
corporate retreat.

The resort never materialized,
and it's been listed for sale with a
12-million dollar price tag.

Hull and his partners say the
site ... complete with living quarters
for the student population ... is
perfect for their needs.

Founders College already has
been given degree-granting status by
the state ... they figure on enrolling
about 140 students when the school
opens in the fall of 2007.

major battle....that may force them to
pay up.....

A U-S federal judge has granted
class action status to a lawsuit that
pits millions of smokers against
cigarette makers.

The suit claims that tobacco
companies duped smokers into thinking
that so-called "light" cigarettes are
safer than regular ones.

Altria's Philip Morris unit and
Reynolds American are among those that
will have to face the music.

your wallets....

Gasoline prices have fallen below
two-dollars a gallon in some parts of
our region.

VO-NAT For the Roanoke region, which

covers a wide part of southwest
Virginia, Triple-A reports an *average*
price today of 2-15 a gallon.

That's down 49 cents in one
month.

Today's price is about 50 cents a
gallon less than it was one year ago.

over the weekend, and their customers

Ellis have been suspended for
Saturday's big game with Georgia Tech
after both were arrested early Sunday
morning in downtown Blacksburg.

Police charged Morgan with
disorderly conduct and resisting arrest
and Ellis with obstructing justice.

Again neither will play Saturday.

deserved honor for Victor Harris.

The Macho Man was named the
Defensive Back of the Week in the ACC
for his Performance against Cincinnati.
The Sophomore had 2 Interceptions one
of which he took back for a 72 yard
Touchdown that sealed the Hokies 29 to
13 Victory. The Picks were the first
of his career in a Hokie Uniform.

Harris also added 3 Tackles on
the day, this is Macho's first year as
a starter for Tech after being the top
recruit in the state 2 years ago.
