arrest in a drive-by shooting on
Mountain Avenue.

It happened in the 600 block
around 3:40 Saturday morning.

30 year old Michael Wayne Ward
was riding in a car when someone opened
fire.

19 year old Michael Vaden Thomas
is in jail tonight charged with
malicious wounding and use of a firearm
in the commission of a felony.

investigating the death of a man who
was struck and killed by a train.

It happened around 6:45 yesterday
evening at the Norfolk Southern
railroad tracks near the 1800 block of
12th street.

Officers found the body of a

white male near the train tracks.

Police are not releasing the
victim's identity while the case is
under investigation.

Twenty cats have died over the
past week.

The owner Brenda Fleming says
someone laced their food with
antifreeze.

Some of those cats died within
hours of drinking the liquid and others
had to be put to sleep.

A few are still a live but they
suffer from liver and kidney damage.

Fleming is shocked that someone
could treat animals this way.

Some of the nation's top insurers
are reducing rates in Virginia.


The reasons?... gas prices have
some drivers scaling back their trips,
reducing the likelihood of a crash and
companies are using new technology to
better figure out rates.

Last week, for instance, State
Farm reduced auto rates in the
Commonwealth by about 5-percent.

And this was their first year
back to the area after a two-year
break.

But it may be their last.

Circus organizers say animal
rights activists have made complaints
in several cities, which makes it
difficult for business.

Now they are reconsidering which
animals to use.

February 2005 Last year, we told you how Craig
County residents are trying to
refurbish Camp Mitchell.

On Saturday, the board held a
kick-off to help raise funds for the
project.

The camp used to be a hot spot
for families and kids to go swimming
and camping, but throughout the years

the facilities have fallen on
hardtimes.

The redevelopment plan calls for
an olympic size indoor swimming pool,
new cabins and a lodge facility- just
for starters.

The group hopes to break ground
on the multi-million dollar project
