He and his partners have a contract
on the former Merritt Hutchinson resort

But to make room for the college,
its faculty housing and a planned
retirement community, the county would
need to change its comprehensive plan.

STAND UP BRIDGE: STACY CASE/REPORTING
THE ONGOING MAKEOVER COST NEARLY $185
MILLION DOLLARS. IT'S THOUGHT THAT ONE
GOOD KICK HERE COULD KICKSTART THE
RECOVERY.

KATRINA SURVIVOR
It's an inspiration to me because I had
to fix my house also if they could do
that to the dome we should be able to
rebuild our houses.
BUT ALL THE PROMISE OF A FRESH START
HERE CAN'T ERASE THE DESPERATION SO
MANY EXPERIENCED.
NAT: I've got to tear all these
cabinets out.
ERIC BLUE SPENT SEVERAL DAYS IN THE
DOME STRANDED WITH 30 THOUSAND OTHER
PEOPLE DURING KATRINA. NO FOOD NO
WATER, NO WORKING RESTROOMS. HE WANTS
TO REBUILD, BUT DOESN'T HAVE THE MONEY.

You spend that kind of money on a
Superdome you know what I'm saying?
Nobody lives in the Superdome.. Nobody
lives in the Superdome.
CREWS HAULED AWAY FOUR THOUSAND TONS OF
TRASH AND FOUR MILLION GALLONS OF
WATER, HOPING TO TRANSFORM THIS ONCE
SYMBOL OF MISERY INTO A SYMBOL OF
REBIRTH. AND THEY'VE SCORED BIG WITH
