GRAPHIC=FFE Good evening everybody and

welcome to the program known for the
past 23 years as Friday Football Extra.

Tonight, the temperatures cooled
off nicely and the action heated up
across southwest and central Virginia.

In the next 35 minutes we're
going to take you from Dry Fork, to
Radford and back to Appomattox - plus
we'll hit a number of place in between.

William Fleming vs. Salem Fleming coach Rob Senseney and :00 his Colonels were hoping to snap that

Brandon Grigsby will takes the handoff
and roll in for another Spartans''
score to make it a 28-to-nothing lead.

Just as impressive - if not more
so - was the Salem defense. Bryan
Ashford tries to run, but he gets
wrapped up by a host of Spartans for a
loss.

Fleming tried everything it could
think of, Deverio Wilcher will get
chased out of the pocket and chased out

the Fleming offense. *CG ffefinal William Fleming

The Vikings Grandin Van Marter

On the very next play, Brian

he takes care of the rest and the rock

game to make it 6-to-nothing after the

Hidden Valley kept it rolling

GRAPHIC=PLAYER It's not often that a kicker

earns our player of the week honor, but
when one does, you can almost guarantee
that the young man will be from Pulaski
County.
GRAPHIC=BEN BUCKLAND FULL

Last Friday night junior Ben
Buckland kicked Pulaski County into the
win column for the first time this
season by hitting three goals against
Jefferson Forest. The win allowed the
entire county to exhale for more
reasons than one.
FULL SCREEN HEINERS Buckland is a lanky steak eating,
history loving young man who patterns
his game after fellow Cougar and fellow
player of the week Shayne Graham.

He's also been known to watch
Boondock Saints a time or two.

Let's meet this week's Heiner's
Slice of Life player of the week.

OQ=...than we used to." << If Ben Buckland had simply hit
(END SOT) three field goals and lifted Pulaski to

its first win of the year - after
starting 0-and-3 that would have plenty
- trust me.

But to understand the kicks and
the win you have to understand the
inspiration.

Six days before the Forest game -
Buckland's kicking coach and one of the
pillars of the entire county - Kenneth
Dobson passed away at the age of 80 -
leaving everyone in a state of shock.

BEN BUCKLAND

Mister D. was like a grandfather
to Buckland, and steadying influence to
many adults - including head coach Jack

Turner.

JACK TURNER

Dobson was now physically gone -
but his spirit was still evident. As
Buckland kicked to get ready for the
Cavaliers a chair was empty on the
sideline as a reminder - but Buckland
didn't need a reminder - he was on a
mission at Sabre Stadium.

GRAPHIC=HOLD DOBSON Mr. Dobson had a way of putting

things in their proper perspective.

It's something he did for 39
years as a teacher, administrator and
coach in the Virginia Public School
System.

There's no doubt Ben Buckland
made him proud last week.
