Contract negotiations between
Goodyear and the United Steelworkers
Union have gone nowhere.

And the union this week gave the
company a 72-hour notice that it WILL
go on strike.

The deadline is today at one
o-clock.

If no agreement is reached, workers
in Danville and eleven other American
plants will hit the picket lines this
afternoon.

The U-S-W represents 12-thousand
Goodyear workers around the country,
22-hundred of them in Danville.

The two sides have been sparring
over proposed plant closings and cuts
in retiree benefits.

98 percent of Danville workers
voted to go on strike if necessary.

Department will hold a press conference
this morning to discuss an officer
involved shooting last night.

Officers were called to the
38-hundred block of Stratford Park
Drive around 11:40 where they observed
a man in the parking lot being loud and
disorderly.

The suspect, who has been
identified as 22 year old Kenneth
Michael Lanham of Roanoke, repeatedly
told police that he had gun.

Lanham reportedly ignored
several orders by the officers to drop
any weapon he had and show his hands.

Police say Lanham pointed a
billfold toward the officers acting as
if he had a gun, and he lunged toward
them in a threatning manner.

The officers fired one shot and
hit Lanham in the thigh.

Officer K-C Jennings and Officer
B-S Rice have been placed on

administrative leave pending the
outcome of an administrative
investigation.

The suspect, who has been

So far, this jury duty scam has
been reported in Michigan, Ohio, Texas,

The Attorney General's office has
only heard of one instance in Virginia,

They are trying to get the word
out so the scam does not take hold in
the Commonwealth.

Again, protecting yourself is
simple -- never give your personal

That goes for all the different
types of scams we report on.
