announced today it was donating twenty
million dollars to build a new civic
center as well as a soccer complex.
One will be located in the city of
Martinsville, the other in Henry
County.
The hope is both projects will be a

Yesterday A California grower is recalling
a popular brand of green-leaf lettuce
because of possible E-coli
contamination.
The "Foxy" brand lettuce was sold
in seven western states.
Company officials say irrigation
water may have been contaminated with
e-coli bacteria.
So far no one has reported any
illness.
The recall comes less than a week
after the F-D-A lifted its warning on
fresh spinach.

members, was found shot to death by a
passerby.

Songer will be greatly missed.

murder case, this one six years old,
could be back in Virginia by the end of
the week.

June 2000 30 year old William Joseph
:11 Gutersloh Goo-ter-slaw is charged with
first degree murder in the death of 23
year old Radford University student
Lori Pleasants.
Her body was found by friends in
her Radford apartment back in June of
2000.
The medical examiner ruled that
she had been strangled to death and her
wrists were cut after she died.
Gutersloh will have a hearing
later this week in New York.
If he waives extradition, Radford
Police have up to a month to go get
him.

a man died in the custody of Lynchburg
police last month.

Drive apartment after police say he
resisted arrest and had to be
pepper-sprayed into submission.
A preliminary autopsy report

eyewitness accounts contradict the
police version of events and they want
a federal investigation into the
matter.

has signed up for a new service called
Language Line.
Here's how it works.
If a person who doesn't speak
English, needs help or must speak with
police, they can point to their
language on a card that police carry
with them.
The officer would then call the
Language Line and get an interpreter on

But non-English speaking folks
who call 9-1-1 will still have to be
patient with dispatchers.

afternoon that the next home game
against Southern Miss will now take
place at 7pm on Saturday October 21st.
No big deal except that this is
homecoming!
OrigInally, that game was set for
1:30 in the afternoon, but it was moved
to 7pm so it could be televised on
ESPNU.
This Thursday the Hokies head to
Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts this week
for a Thursday night ESPN battle with
Boston College.

Brandon Dillard has been added to the
travel squad for the game.
The redshirt freshman from
Bassett showed some nasty speed in last
week's JV game with Fork Union and as a
result he has been added as the sixth
receiver for the BC game.
The Hokies also will have Chris
Ellis and Josh Morgan back for the
Boston College game. Both were
suspended for the Ga. Tech contest
after getting arrested in downtown
Blacksburg late on the night after the
Cincinnati game.
Both have continued to practice
throughout their suspension.

this week, and today UVA's talented
point guard, Sean Singletary, was
named a preseason all-American by
Street and Smith magazine.

third team selection this preseason and
last year he earned first team all-ACC
