say a father was killed by his son.

A passerby found the body of
55-year-old William Reed Songer Senior,
around 10 o-clock yesterday morning.
The body was found lying in some
weeds along the 15-hundred block of
Merrimac Road.
Investigators say Songer had been
shot to death.

Sheriff's office deputies arrested 26
year old William Reed Songer Junior of
Blacksburg.
He's charged with murder and is

GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident A teenager was killed in a car
accident on Interstate 81 last night.
Police say it happened near mile
marker 109, near the Radford exit.
Nineteen-year-old Ashley Grose of
Galax was traveling North on I-81.
Police say Grose overcorrected and
then struck a guard rail.
She was ejected from the car and
died at the scene.
She was not wearing a seatbelt.

traffic completely yesterday.

southbound at mile-marker 174 in
Rockbridge County.
A tractor trailor truck carrying
mail overturned in the median at around
4:30 yesterday evening.
It took crews hours to clean up
the mess, and transfer the mail to
another truck.
No one was injured.

future of Interstate 81.

File Tape On Wednesday, the Commonwealth
Transportation Board will meet at the
Hotel Roanoke to pick a plan to fix the
interstate.
One of the options is to scrap the
Star Solutions idea and instead add
strategic truck climbing lanes as well
as improving safety at some
interchanges-- including one in
Roanoke.
V-DOT realizes not everyone can
make the meeting in person, so the
state is offering an alternative.

Democrat Jim Webb face off in their
final debate at 8 p-m in Richmond. You
can see it tonight on WDBJ-7.

allegations coming out of the close
race.
The latest report is that Senator
Allen never told Congress about stock
options he acquired as a board member
of a high tech company.
The Republican joined three
corporate firms after leaving the
governor's office in 19- 98, all high-
tech businesses he'd helped as
Governor.
Congressional rules require
senators to disclose all details like
this.
Allen says the stock options were
worthless, and he believed he did not
have to report them.

conference in Williamsburg to showcase
the Commonwealth's Indian tribes.
There were artifacts on display
and tours of the tribal centers to show
people the impact this community had on
Virginia.
The event focused on teaching
others about the culture and to discuss
the laws and policies that have
affected Indians over their 400 years
of survival.
Speakers even shared stories
about the role Native Americans played
in helping America win its
independence.

on" this weekend to defeat a deadly
disease.

They walked three miles at the
Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The goal was to raise funds for
the A-L-S Association, a non-profit
organization commited to finding a cure
for Lou Gehrig's Disease.
The agency is funded solely by
donations and all their services are
free. This money will help them,
continue to help patients.

neighborhood has been "battered" by bad
weather this fall.

Several inches of rain fell this
weekend, causing scattered flooding and
evacuations.
Streets were flooded, trees are
down and power was out after a storm
stalled over Virginia.
The roads looked more like ponds,
as drivers tried to make their way
through the standing water.
At this point city officials say
it could be a year to 18 months before
the flood-ravaged area will be back to
normal.
