Despite worldwide condemnation,
South Korea is reporting possible signs
that North Korea is moving to conduct
even more nuclear tests.

North Korea's official news agency
said the test was performed
successfully, and there's been no
radioactive leakage from the site.

The North is believed to have enough
radioactive material for about a half-
dozen bombs.

North Korea calls it "a great leap

Sot: Pak Gil Yon/North Korean
ambassador to the UN

"I am very much proud of our scientists
and researchers have conducted

such a successful nuclear underground
test."

Reaction to North Korea's reported
nuclear test came quickly.

Sot: President Bush

"Such a claim constitutes a threat to
international peace security. The

U-S condemns this provocative act."

Similar condemnations have also come
from Japan, Britain and Australia.

Even China, usually a staunch ally of
North Korea, has strongly

criticized the test.

(LEVINSON BRIDGE/United Nations)

THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY IS NOW
TURNING ITS FOCUS TO THE UNITED

NATIIONS.CALLING ON THAT BODY TO TAKE
DECISIVE ACTION AGAINST NORTH

KOREA.

The U -N is moving quickly... the
recent developments are on the

agenda of an emergency Security Council
meeting.

Sot: John Bolton/U.S. Ambassador to
U.N.

"We think it is important to respond to
even a claim of a nuclear test."

Just two days ago, the international
organization warned North Korea

not to go through with any tests.
Sanctions have already been imposed

and now theres the possibility of
even tougher penalties against the

impoverished nation.

As for the test itself, there are
conflicting reports just how powerful

it was. Some experts say the blast was
far smaller than bombs the U-S

dropped on Japan during World War II.
But no matter how potent it

was.the test sends a clear message to
the world.. that North Korea is

intent on building atomic weapons.

NBC Sports Earnhardt went a lap down just :00 past the halfway point thanks to a flat
left front tire, but he would get his
lap back and be a factor.

With just 50 laps to go, the
dreaded big one occurred when Casey
Mears got turned around at close to 200
miles an hour.

The melee involved 10 cars,

including those of three Chasers, Jeff
Gordon, Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin.

It was on again just 18 laps from
the finish, as David Stremme tagged J-
J Yeley.

Tony Stewart and Paul Menard were
also collected.

Junior fought all the way back
and led as the laps wound down.

But as he tried to hold off the
Hendrick cars of Jimmie Johnson and
Brian Vickers, the 25 and 48 got
together and Johnson tagged Earnhardt
with half a lap to go.

Vickers drove right past them
both and took the checkered flag for
his first career win in controversial
fashion.
