face an increase of more than six
percent.

The cost of heating with

average of 7.4 percent.

And here in western Virginia,
customers of Roanoke Gas may get a
bigger break.

50-percent of those polled considered
highway spending "VERY important."

Our latest poll- -taken yesterday
and today- -indicates those who feel
it's "VERY important" are in the
majority. Fifty-two percent said so.

While that's a small increase
from February to October- -and it falls
within the margin of error- -there are
some significant changes in HOW voters
think we should raise the MONEY to pay
for highway construction.

overwhelmingly opposed to increasing

Virginia's share of the gasoline tax
...to pay for highway work.

They were opposed during the
General Assembly session in February,
and they're still against a gas- tax
hike... two weeks after the SPECIAL
session failed to resolve this issue.

Eight months ago two thirds of
those polled said they'd support
increasing fines for traffic
violations.

The numbers softened considerably
since our last poll on this subject.

Support fell six percentage
points... falling from 65-percent in
February to 59-percent NOW ...in favor
of increasing traffic fines to pay for
highways.

At the same time, there's growing
opposition to increasing the sales tax
on cars.

While 64-percent said they
opposed increasing the auto sales tax,
as of last winter... 70-percent now say
they're against such an increase.

State police say a Jeep Cherokee

throwing the driver and passenger out.

The Montgomery County school
board wants to build a 3-thousand seat
stadium on 86 acres off Price's Fork

concerned about traffic, lighting and
noise.

The Blackwater River crested
this morning, but is expected to stay

to a close today in both the Single "A"
and Double "A" ranks. At the Single
"A" level Floyd County held onto their
day 1 lead to claim the team title.
They were led by Jessica Hollandsworth
who came up short in the individual
competition. She finished 3rd,
Marshall Bailey of James River took
home the individual State Title,
shooting a 70 today for a 2-day total
of 142. Sam Bryant of Galax finished
5th.

Group AA Golf State Championship The Double "A" level finished up
it's 2-day run at Roanoke Country Club
with Lord Botetourt holding the team
lead headed into their second 18 holes.
The Cavaliers were un-able to hold
onto the lead, they did get second
place. Blacksburg came back to win the
team competition taking home the State
Title. Congrats goes out to Doug Day
and Company for that.

In the individual competition
Chris Hamm of Courtland held onto his
day 1 lead and won the Individual

title.
