GRAPHIC=North Korea New tough talk from North Korea.

As sanctions are considered at the
United Nations, the communist

country is reportedly using new threats
aimed at getting the U- S involved in

direct talks.

(END SOT) One day after North Korea claimed to

have tested a nuclear weapon, the

U.S. is in no mood to conduct direct
talks with the communist nation and

is not fazed by reports North Korea
could fire a nuclear tipped missile.

Sot: John Bolton/U.S. Ambassador to the
U.N.

"North Korea has had a successful
history of intimidating other

countries/edit/but they're not going to
be successful with us this time."

Bolton is back at the U.N. Security
Council today pushing tough

sanctions designed to cut off resources
needed for North Koreas nuclear

program and its ability to sell
ballistic missile technology.

Wendy Gillette/United Nations

"Those sanctions will not be imposed
unless North Koreas long-time ally

China agrees to them. As a permanent
member of the U.N.Security

Council, China has veto power over any
resolutions."

China says the nuclear test has had a
negative impact on it relations

with North Korea, and is now indicating
it will support some UN response.

sot: Wang Guangya /Chinese Ambassador

to UN

"will support some punitive actions..
but they have to be appropriate"

Japan is another nearby nation
watching this situation very closely.

Since yesterday, military planes have
been monitoring radiation levels

in the air. The Japanese are
considering imposing economic sanctions
of

their own, but say they have no
intention of building a nuclear
arsenal.

Meanwhile questions remain over whether
or not north korea did in fact

pull off a nuclear test..

something the white house says
..there's the possibility the world may

never be able to fully determine.

Wendy Gillette, for CBS News at the
United Nations.

KIMBERLY ON CAM The Virginia Education Association
GRAPHIC=Campaign 2006 announced this morning that it is

supporting the campaign of U-S Senate
candidate Jim Webb.

The V-E-A cites Webb's desire to
strengthen Social Security as part of
the reason.

democratic challenger says he is
grateful for the organiztion's support.

The V-E-A says Senator George Allen
did not respond to their questionaire.

The National Education Association gave
Allen and "F" on his performance during

the 109th session of Congress.

This came the morning after Allen
and Webb squared off in their final

Some of the biggest issues
discussed were recent controversial
allegations aimed at both candidates.

Allen denied having used racial
slurs in the past.

Webb said his opinions had
changed since a 19-79 magazine article,
in which he argued that women are not
fit to command men in battle.

There were also heated exchanges
centering on taxes and foreign policy.

Webb called for a "diplomatic
solution" to the war in Iraq, while
Allen stuck by his support of President
