THIS TINY ARENA, KNOWN AS A SUMO
STABLE, IN DOWNTOWN TOKYO. IT'S A
GRUELING LIFESTYLE FOR THE ESTONIAN
NATIVE13 Baruto, who studied judo as a
boy, began three years ago at the
bottom - cooking, serving and
struggling to fit into sumo's
feudalistic hierarchy. 8 "WOULD YOU
TELL YOUNG MEN IN ESTONIA TO COME TO
JAPAN TO BE SUMO WRESTLERS?" "NO."7
Japan can no longer produce enough

wrestlers on its own3 "VERY FEW KIDS
ARE FIRST OF ALL BIG ENOUGH TO COMPETE
IN THE SPORT, AND SECOND, WILLING TO
MAKE THAT SACRIFICE, TO LIVE THAT
SPARTAN LIFESTYLE." 9 Not everyone
applauds the outsourcing of sumo. But
the ancient sport's survival may depend
on it. Lucy Craft, CBS News, Tokyo.7

bypassed racing in the Busch Series and
gone right from the Craftsmen Truck

Both Series will be at Martinsville
Next weekend.

Current Truck Series Rookie Erik
Darnell was rumored to be possibly
making that jump for Roush Racing next
Season.

But on a stop here in Roanoke,
he put that rumor to rest.
