School student was arrested
yesterday... a teen carrying a loaded
handgun near school property.

File Tape Police will not say whether they
believe the 16-year-old boy intended to
harm any students, faculty or
administrators.
Responding to a citizen's call,
police say they stopped the teen about
100 feet from the Northside property
line.
He appeared to be heading toward
the school.
The suspect is charged with
carrying a concealed weapon and
carrying a firearm within one thousand
feet of school property.
He in now juvenile detention.
Because of the boy's age, the case is
going through the juvenile system, and
his name is not being released.

decision, but former Governor Mark
Warner announced yesterday he will NOT
run for president in 2008.

While the time is right
politically, the 51 year old says it's
NOT right personally.
Warner made the decision over the
weekend while celebrating his dad's
81st birthday with his family.
He felt it was only fair to make
the decision early to keep members of
his staff from hanging in limbo.
Warner says he's not ruling out a
*future* run at the presidency or any
other office- including vice president
or a second run for the governor's
mansion.

crews are extending the left turning
lane on Route 220/Franklin Road heading
into the shopping center.
It's clearly needed. The current
turning lane is too short often causing
a backup onto the highway.

now been on the Goodyear line for one
week, but there's been no change in
their contract status.

Hundreds of workers lined up at
the Goodyear ballfield in Danville
yesterday to pick up the last of their
regular paychecks.
The Danville workers and
thousands of others across the U-S are
striking over issues of paycuts,
retirement benefits and job protection.
Neither the union or Goodyear has
been back to the bargaining table since
negotiations came to a standstill last
week.
Goodyear says it is still meeting
customer demands by using its salaried
workers to keep the plants running.

are heading to Danville over the next
several years, courtesy of a Swedish
furniture maker.

America plans to invest 85 million
dollars in building a new factory in
the Cane Creek Centre industrial area.
Swedwood is a sub-sidiary of
IKEA, the Swedish home furnishings
retail giant.
Local and state leaders made the
announcement during a news conference
in Danville today.
More than 8 million dollars
in state incentives helped lure
Swedwood to Virginia.

are "seeing red" over plans for a new
paintball field in Christiansburg.

Recently, he applied to the town
for a conditional use permit to build a
paintball field next to his business on

Nearby property owners were

In a statement to News 7,
Superintendent Tiffany Anderson said
"any activities that would encourage
involvement with materials that are in
violation of School Board policies
would be of concern."
Maxwell says he's willing to work
with the town and school system to
ensure safety.
