When the TOP ARMY COMMANDER says it's

General Richard Dannatt called for
British troops to be pulled out

'soon,' or risk 'catastrophic
consequences both for Iraq and British

society.'

But as quickly as the firestorm
ignited, he began to backpedal just as

fast.

GENERAL RICHARD DANNATT/BRITISH ARMY

GET ON WITH IT. WE CAN'T BE

THERE FOR YEARS AND YEARS IN THE SORT

There are around 75-hundred British
troops in Iraq, mainly in the Shiite

south.

But Britain has suffered
casualties...nearly 120 since the

invasion...and the region remains rife
with sectarian violence.

Despite the general's remarks that
their presence is making things WORSE

-- Iraqi officials say they NEED
british troops to stay -- and frontline

soldiers are applauding their commander
for telling it like it is.

WORDS, 'THIS HOO-HA.' AND FOR THE

MOST PART, HE'S BEEN GETTING SUPPORT,
FROM THE TOP DOWN.

Tony Blair's office says the Prime
Minister is confident in the general,

and he has his 'full support.'

Staying in step with the Prime
Minister, General Dannatt sought to
make

one thing absolutely clear: Britain has
NO intention of abandoning the

United States in Iraq.

it's no joke.

They actually change their plans for
the day.

The phobia about Friday the 13th
dates back to the Greek

mathematician Pythagoras, who believed
numbers had magical properties.

Some of the animals at Denver Zoo got
a special treat yesterday.

A porcupine and several mongooses got
to decorate pumpkins their OWN way, as
part of the zoo's Halloween
festivities.

The pumpkins didn't look like
pumpkins for long, as the animals had a
great time tearing into them, while
crowds of people watched.

The Denver Zoo hosts its annual "Boo
at the Zoo" beginning October 29th.

ESPN Sean Glennon was going up top :00 early and he completes the pass, but
right to Ryan Glasper, who makes the
interception for Boston College and
that would lead to points.

Matt Ryan over the middle to
Kevin Challenger who hangs on for the
touchdown and a 7- nothing lead in the

second quarter.

Glennon found David Clowney on a
touchdown, but it was called back on a
hold.

So Tech had to settle for this
Brandon Pace field goal and trailed 7
to 3 at the break.

Ryan found Challenger all by
himself in the endzone midway thru the
fourth quarter for another B- C
touchdown.

Meanwhile, things boiled over on
the Tech sideline with lots of
fingerpointing.

BC won it 22 to 3.

SPEED Kasey Kahne has lots of ground :00 to make up in the Chase.

But he took a step in the right
direction with a lap at 190.194 miles
an hour.

He held the provisional pole most of
the night, but had to settle for the
outside of row one.

That's because his Evernham
teammate Scott Riggs was a few ticks
faster at 191.469 miles an hour.

He's on the pole.

Now your starting lineup for
Saturday's race.
