times you would be hard-pressed to find
councilman Brian Wishneff in

than a third of council meetings and
nearly a half since the May election.

That's led to grumblings among
council members that Wishneff has
essentially tuned out since losing the
Victory Stadium debate.

careful not to appear as they were bad
mouthing Wishneff- but they say it's
hard to do city business without him.

conduct an audit of the Roanoke
Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

since an earthquake this big has hit
the big island of Hawaii.

But not one single death has been
reported!!!!! The earthquake measured
a 6 point 6 on the richeter scale. The
initial quake was centered just 153
miles southeast of Honolulu.
And according to the U.S. Geological
Survey, there have been several
aftershocks....and the Big Island is
under a state of Emergency.
Residents are now left without power
and a huge mess to clean up.

Many Buffalo residents are still in
shelters...schools still closed and
utility crews are working to restore
power to as many as 200 thousand
customers....
The National Guard is in the city's
hardest hit areas, helping those who
need to be taken to the shelters.
In the meantime, the Federal
Emergency Management Agency is
releasing up to five (m) million
dollars in clean-up funds for four
western New York counties.

GRAPHIC=Andrea Petrosky Back in VIrginia, a woman who used to
live in Roanoke... pleaded guilty today
to killing her own child. She won't be
eligible for parole until she's 82
years old.

to go on trial today in Bristol for
capital murder.
Prosecutors say she strangled her
six year old son at their Bristol home
in April of 2005 and then held him
underwater in the bathtub.. he died
later at the hospital.
But today as jury selection was
about to get underway.. Petrosky plead
guilty to a lessor count of first
degree murder..and was sentenced to 50
years-

minutes of each other. It looks like
they're closely connected.

Deputies were called to Nash's
Trailer Park near Gladys in Campbell
County around 5:30 this morning to
investigate a reported domestic
dispute.
A 32-year-old woman had been
stabbed several times in the chest and
back. Her name has not been released.
Witnesses told police 41-year-old
Ronnie Edward Taylor fled the scene and
may have been suicidal.
Taylor was killed minutes later
when his car crashed head-on into
another vehicle on Route 501 South.
The other driver was seriously
injured.

an area Congressman is pleased with a
new law designed to bag the betting.

But, it also includes a crackdown
on Internet gambling.
The law would keep gamers from
using credit cards, checks and
electronic fund transfers to cover

authorities say an illegal gambling
operation is no longer bringing in the
dough.

Investigators say the machines
generated thousands of dollars a week
and were used in games where the house
took a cut.

Gillispie is charged with possession of
illegal gambling devices and conducting
an illegal gambling enterprise.
He's out of jail on a 20-thousand
dollar bond.

Chicago.
Don't worry, though. No one was hurt.
It was a stunt by Allstate Insurance
for a commercial due out next year.
The stunt recreates a scene from the
1980 Steve McQueen film "The Hunter".
Of course the car wasn't left in the
river. A crane was standing by to lift
the vehicle up and out of the water
afterwards.

Valley Sports Club Meeting, the
featured speaker was Alex Hawkins. He
spent 10 years in the N-F-L playing for
the Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Colts,
and Atlanta Falcons. He was best known
for his days in Baltimore where he
served as a Team Captain along with
Johnny Unitas. After his playing days
were done. Hawkins became an analyst
for N-F-L games on C-B-S.

upset with the way the Football team
played against Boston College. That
pales in comparsion to the way most
fans felt about the team's behavior in
the game.
In what maybe the first step in
cleaning up some of the bad apples on
the team, Frank Beamer has dismissed
Defensive End William Wall from the
team.

September 16 Wall, who was kicked out of
practice earlier this season for
yelling at the coaching staff and was
then held out of that week's game
against North Carolina for his actions.
He rebounded to win Co-Rookie of the
Week Honors in the A-C-C for his
performance the next week against Duke.
He will not repeat that feat.
Coach Beamer said that Wall was set
loose not for any one reason, just the
culmination of many events that led to
his dismissal from the team.
