We have new details tonight on
HOW - -police believe- - a Blacksburg
man helped his brother... a double
murder suspect.. escape from jail.

Michael Morva was in court this

morning, charged with conspiracy to
help an inmate escape.

That inmate is William Morva.

Back in August, police say
William got away from a deputy at the
Montgomery County Hospital and shot and
killed security guard Derrick
McFarland.

Police say William then went on
the run and a day later shot and killed
Corporal Eric Sutphin on the
Huckleberry Trail.

Michael and William were in the same
cell block at the Montgomery County
jail for five days in January.

An investigator says Michael told him
at that time... he and William had
extensively discussed

how to fake injuries and how to get to
the local hospital to escape.

The investigator says Michael also told
him William wanted his family to send
him notebook paper with blue, black and
purple ink on it, so he could soak it
in water and put the ink on his body to
fake an injury. And the investigator
says Michael and William also discussed
using deodorant body spray so the
tracking dogs couldn't follow his
trail.

The investigator says Michael admitted
to telling his brother he would help
him, but also said he ONLY agreed to
get his brother off his back.

But the night of William's escape
Police say Michael went to the
Christiansburg Walmart and bought
deodorant body spray and a sandwhich.
They say he drove around for a while
and then went home. Police knocked on
his door early that morning looking for
William.

After they left Michael told police he
went to the Huckleberry trail at the
NRV mall.

He seen here being arrested at 5:00 in
the morning.. less than a mile from the
hospital where William escaped.>>

In it they discuss whether or not
to go ahead with plan B.

morning ended with the death of one of
the men involved.

fighting in the 29-hundred block of
Brambleton Avenue around one A-M.

One of the men fell into the
street and was hit by two passing cars.

Police have not released the
man's identity yet.

They say they have talked to

of Bedford and a local landowner has
been settled ... before it went any
further in court.

Schrock's Draper Road property because
it had been contaminated by the city's
landfill.

But a judge recently ruled Bedford
was overstepping its authority and
could not seize the land for its own

would drop his 2-and a half- million
dollar lawsuit against the city.

way for work to begin on a new
subdivision in the city made up of
homes worth at least half a million
dollars apiece.

city in an attempt to stop the Wilton
sub-division. They argued it would
have a negative affect on their
neighborhood, at the very least during
the construction phase.

Judge Charles Dorsey sided with

be considered "politically
questionable" but the judge said: not
"legally questionable."

Shalala held a news conference today
and said that despite intense public
pressure she will not punish any Miami
athlete with additional sanctions or
suspensions - and she added that's it's
time for the media and the court of
public opinion to let it go.

Meanwhile, Florida International
took a much harsher stance --
dismissing two players from the team
today and extending the suspensions of
all other 16 sanctioned players
indefinitely.

The 16 suspended FIU players will
be placed on athletic probation for the
remainder of the year, and they must
complete 10 hours of anger management
counseling, and participate in
community service to educate South
Florida youth on appropriate behavior
in athletics.

of assault, kicking and fighting - but
not from the Miami game.

This past Saturday Holy Cross
players came from behind and beat
Dartmouth. The Crusader players then
decided to pose for pictures on the
Dartmouth "D" painted at midfield.

That didn't go over too well and
fights amongst the players and fans
broke out.

Hanover, New Hampshire police and
school officials are looking into the
not so civil behavior at the Ivy League
institution.
