Sheriff's deputies in Pulaski
County are looking for a suspect --
after what appeared to be a lengthy
standoff.
Marshall Metz Junior was believed
to have barricaded himself inside a
home on Towes Ferry road in Newbern
around six o'clock this evening, but
police apparently did not find him
inside.
Police say Metz is wanted on an
attempted malicous wounding charge.
State police are also on the
scene assisting with the case.
We'll have more on this story
here on News 7 as information becomes
available.

and battery.

the third was arrested for assaulting
two inmates at the Roanoke County,
Salem Jail.
Police say Hodges was working
part time as G-E-D instructor at the
jail when the incidents happened.
Hodges has taught kindergarten at
South Salem Elementary for the last 11
years.
Many parents say the younger
students loved Hodges as a teacher.

they've never received any complaints

Nevertheless, the school did send
a letter home explaining the situation.
Both police and school officials
say there is no evidence the
allegations against Hodges took place

On that page, Hodges said he was

the coast of Florida is finally being
scrapped.

tires seemed -- at first -- like the
next best thing to recycling, but it
turned out to be a bad idea.
The tires shift and move with the
currents, which makes it impossible to
become a living coral reef.
Now the Navy will pick them up,
using the opportunity to train divers.
It'll be at least a year before
the full scale cleanup begins.

racing weekend in Martinsville will
take place Friday night after
Qualifying at the second annual Bobby
Scruggs Memorial fundraiser.

Bobby was a NASCAR flagman for 38
years.
He passed away in January of 2005
after a courageous battle with cancer.
Since then his wife Jackie has
done a great job of making sure no one
forgets Bobby by establishing a
foundation in her husband's honor, and
to date 8 college bound students from 7
different area high schools have
received scholarship money.

Island.
The students were immigrants trying
