GRAPHIC=Shooting Roanoke Police are investigating

a morning shooting.

It happened at around 9:00 today.

Police say 36-year-old Carlos
Eugene Smith was shot near 14th and
Melrose Avenue.

Emergency crews took him to
Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and
his wound is considered non-life
threatening.

Police are still investigating
the circumstances surrounding this
incident.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked
to call the Roanoke Police Department.

still searching for a man they say
tried to shoot his wife.

call with shots fired yesterday at
around 5:30 in the evening.

Marshall Metz Junior was believed
to have barricaded himself inside the
home on Towes Ferry Road in Newbern.

But when police forced their way
inside, he was nowhere to be found.

Police say Metz is wanted on an
attempted malicious wounding charge.

IT WAS THE BIGGEST IN THE WORLD WHEN IT
WAS BUILT, AND MAYBE THE UGLIEST...
LOOMING OVER SOME OF THE WORLD'S MOST
BEAUTIFUL ARCHITECTURE. NOW THIS MOSCOW

MONSTROSITY IS COMING DOWN....SLOWLY
DISAPPEARING FROM THE BANK OF THE

CHUKANOV. "But it was built almost 50
years ago, and now it's time has
passed."

THE ROSSIYA'S SIX THOUSAND BEDS WERE
MEANT TO HOUSE COMMUNIST OFFICIALS FROM
FAR AND WIDE.

BUT IT WAS AN INN WITH LITTLE
COMFORT--FAMOUS FOR ITS LOUSY FOOD,
PLENTIFUL COCKROACHES, AND EVER-PRESENT
KEY LADIES WHO SPIED ON GUESTS.

THOUGH THE ROOMS HAD A VIEW TO DIE FOR,
THE ROSSIYA WAS DONE IN BY THE
COMPETITION.

SO NOW, BEHIND THE SCAFFOLDING, WORKMEN
ARE LITERALLY RIPPING THE ROSSIYA APART
ONE FLOOR AT A TIME, AND CARTING IT
AWAY.

It might have been faster just to blow
the thing up, but it couldn't be done.

Not only is the Rossiya surrounded by
churches, but it's got electricity and
sewer lines running through it that are
still in use, serving the Kremlin.

THE ROSSIYA WAS SO BIG, IT WILL BE
REPLACED BY A WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD,
INCLUDING SEVERAL SMALL HOTELS, OFFICE
BUILDINGS, AND A THEATER.

THEY'LL BE BUILT IN A CLASSICAL STYLE
THAT WILL FIT IN WITH THE SURROUNDINGS.
.. BECAUSE THE HOTEL, THOUGH IT WAS

racing weekend in Martinsville will
take place tomorrow night after
Qualifying at the second annual Bobby
Scruggs Memorial fundraiser.

Scruggs was a NASCAR flagman for
38 years.

He passed away in January of 2005
after a courageous battle with cancer.

Since then, his wife Jackie has
made sure no one forgets Bobby by
establishing a foundation in her
husband's honor.

To date, 8 college- bound

students from 7 different area high
schools have received scholarship
money.
