Police found a body in the
Roanoke River near Wiley Drive this
morning.
They're calling it a homicide.

the day investigating the area, police
have now removed their barricade and
wrapped up their work in that area for
right now.

not released the idenity of the person.
However, they are telling us that
it was the body of a female.

OQ=RESULTS COME BACK. <<
Just after 8:00 this morning, a
passerby here in Wasena Park noticed a
body floating in the Roanoke River.
That person alerted police and
upon arrival they discovered a female's
body toward the middle of the water.
Roanoke Fire E-M-S spent hours
searching the area for evidence.
They sent a team out in a raft
boat where the body was discovered not
far from a jogging trail.
At this stage into the
investigation, authorities have not
disclosed what they're looking for.
And police are not releasing how
this person died. All they're saying
is that the death is under
investigation.
Officials have sent the body to
the State Medical Examiner's office.
And police should have more
insight into what happened when those
results come back.

turned scary today when an 11-year-old
boy got separated from everyone else.
It happened along the Dragon's
Tooth Trail near Catawba in northwest
Roanoke County.
Searchers fanned out on the ground and
from the air, but the boy came out on
his own about two hours later.
Officials did not identify him or the
private school he attended.
