GRAPHIC=DAVIS, RICKY There was a guilty plea yesterday
from the Roanoke man who shot a police
officer in the foot and then barricaded
himself in his home for several hours
this past summer.

July 12 Ricky Edward Davis eventually
laid down his gun and came out
peacefully, but the stand-off created a
stir in southeast Roanoke.
A Vinton Police sergeant was shot
as he was checking Davis for weapons.
Sgt. Ben Cook said he had seen
Davis sitting in a car with a syringe
in his hand, so he approached to
investigate.

accused of molesting a child.

Hawthorne Reed, Junior, was
indicted by a Radford Grand Jury last
month on an aggravated sexual battery
charge plus two counts of forcible
sodomy.

Reed is the pastor at First
Baptist Church West Dublin.
The prosecutor says the incident
happened six years ago with a girl
under the age of 13.
By phone yesterday afternoon,
Reed told News 7 the allegations are
NOT true and he plans to fight them in
court.
He says he believes God will
vindicate him.

Last year, residents on Tinker
Mountain joined with Hollins University
and the Western Virginia Water
Authority in an effort to protect and
perserve the area.
Now, 'Scenic Virginia' - a non
profit environmental group - is
recognizing their efforts awarding it
the "best preservation of a scenic
viewshed."
The group says it didn't want
Tinker Mountain stripped of its natural
beauty.

President Bill Clinton made a
fundraising stop with Senatorial
candidate Jim Webb.
Webb's running a tight race
against incumbant George Allen. News 7
Survey USA polls have shown the two
neck and neck -- with Allen slightly
ahead.
Last night, Clinton praised Webb,
and it seems the pair have more in
common than just politics -- they're
both authors.

Meanwhile, Senator George Allen's
getting a little help from the
President.
The Senator appeared at a
campaign fundraiser with President Bush
in front of about 250 people at the
Science Museum of Virginia.
Bush told Allen supporters that
the Senator would stand behind the
administration's war in Iraq.
But after the President left,
Allen was evasive when asked about the
war.

ticket last Friday the 13th... went out
to his car to scratch off the prize....
and realized he had won a million

County for a man police say tried to
shoot his wife.

Deputies responded to a domestic
call with shots fired at around 5:30
Wednesday evening.
Marshall Metz, Junior, was
believed to have barricaded himself
inside the home on Towes Ferry Road in
Newbern.
But when police forced their way
inside, he was nowhere to be found.
Police say Metz is wanted for
attempted malicious wounding.

just after noon yesterday.
