has claimed the life of a woman in
Radford.

Authorities have identified
the victim as 49- year- old Alma Mae
Jackson.

Firefighters responded to the
1700 block of West Street shortly after
one o'clock this morning, and they
battled the fire for 45 minutes before
bringing it under control.

Investigators say the fire does
not appear to be suspicious, they
instead believe it was accidental.

went under water at around 12:30
Saturday afternoon and never came back
up.

with a friend and their canoe capsized.

He went under when they hit deep
water as they were trying to get the
canoe back to land.

Searchers have been looking for
three days now, using a helicopter to
scan from above.

People are even walking the
shoreline.

underwater, but they say the current is
making the search very difficult.

mission in Pennsylvania after an

explosion kills a coal miner.

It happened in Schuylkill
County...that's about 70 miles
northwest of Philadelphia.

There's no word on what caused the
explosion, but a federal safety
spokeswoman says four miners who'd been
working underground managed to get out.


The mine is owned by R and D Coal
Company and this isn't the first
explosion there. In 2004, four workers
were hurt by a blast.

Day slayings of Bryan Harvey, his wife,

They were found in the basement of

associated with a pandemic flu
outbreak.

In Virginia a pandemic would
claim as many as 63- hundred lives,
result in more than 28- thousand
hospitalizations and leave more than
two and a half million residents sick.

This week state and local
governments are practicing how to deal
with such staggering numbers.

The Roanoke County teenager who
stabbed his grandmother to death will
serve 24 years for his crime.

File Tape Chris Sterling Jamison entered a
guilty plea in July, but offered no
explanation for his actions.

Jamison is 15-years-old and will
serve the first six years of his
sentence in the juvenile corrections
system.

After that he will be in a state
pennitery for another 18 years.

Tech at Miami game the following
Saturday - November 4th - was announced
this afternoon.

The Hokies and Canes will kick
things off at 8 o'clock that Saturday
night and the game will be televised by
ABCSports.

Also, UVA is in the sunshine
state that same day.

The Cavs play at Florida State,
and today we learned that their game
with the Seminoles will begin Noon on
Saturday, November 4th.

Washington monuments....no big
deal...but when you see them floating
in the water....that's kind of unusual.

Animal control jumped into action
this morning when two were spotted in
the water of the tidal basin -- near
the Jefferson Memorial.

Rescue crews cruised up the

Potomac to rescue the bucks ....You can
see in the video, they were able to
snag this deer's head and lead it to
shore.

There were no injuries and both deer
were tranquilized and hauled to safety.
