20 minutes after receiving a call from
his girlfriend telling him she wanted
to cool it- -to slow down the
relartionship.

Jamison's grandparents had raised him
and they disapproved of the
relationship.

Just two days earlier Jamison learned
they were considering sending him away
to boarding school.

When he turns 21, he'll be transferred
to the state penitentiary where he'll
serve the balance of his 24-year
sentence.

Jamison is now 15.

The sentencing hearing ended less than

police will be allowed in court when he
goes on trial early next year.

A judge made that ruling this
morning after a 2 1/2 hour hearing in
Ohio.

Utin is the former Blacksburg
teacher and swim club manager who is
now facing 16 charges in Butler County.

Investigators say Utin confessed
to molesting a young girl, and his
attorneys were trying to suppress his
statements to police.

This morning, the judge ruled
those statements are admissible.

He also set the case for trial
the week of January 22nd.

went underwater Saturday afternoon.

He was on the river with a friend
when his canoe capsized.

Walker is a former star pitcher
at U-N-C Charlotte.

He also played for a minor league

River Valley.

It happened just after one o'clock
this morning at a home in the
17-hundred block of West Street in
Radford.

Once firefighters got the fire under
control, they discovered the owner, 49
year old Alma Mae Jackson, dead inside.

A dog was also found dead.

Investigators believe the fire was
accidental.

the Hooker Furniture plant this
afternoon, when a worker's saw ignited
a fire in a spray booth.

Firefighters found light smoke
outside the building and heavy smoke
inside when they arrived at the hooker
plant in southeast Roanoke.

Hooker employees made it out of
the building without injuries, and
firefighters quickly extinguished the
flames.

The fire was contained to the
spray booth, and damages were limited
to several hundred dollars.

of the field Thursday night.

O'Cain is not only a South
Carolina native, who was the
quarterback, the punter, the captain,
and the most valuable player on the
1976 Clemson football team.

Plus, his last coaching stop
before joining the Tech staff was in -
you guessed it - Death Valley.

The tie that binds the two teams
this season is woven even deeper - in
1975 O'Cain played alongside tight end
Stan Rome who later went on to play
with the Kansas City Chiefs. Rome was
a two sport star for the Clemson Tigers
- and he also just happens to be the
father of Hokies' senior offensive
Tackle Brandon Frye.

Frye grew up in Myrtle Beach and
as a kid always thought he would play
for the Tigers.

Instead the former National
Science honors society student will
graduate from Tech this December with a
degree in fiance.

roll into Blacksburg ranked in the top
10, but the Tigers are favored by four
points for Thursday big game.

The Tigers also will be coming to
town with two of the ACC players of the
week.

Last Saturday-ESPN James Davis was named the :00 offfensive back of the week after
rushing for a career-high 216 yards on
21 carries and scoring a pair of
touchdowns in the Tigers' 31-7 victory
over Georgia Tech on Saturday.

His running mate - C.J. Spiller
was named the ACC's rookie of the week.
Spiller had 170 total yards of offense
and also scored two touchdowns.

Tech at Miami game the following
Saturday - November 4th - was announced
this afternoon.

The Hokies and Canes will kick
things off at 8 o'clock that Saturday
night and the game will be televised by
ABCSports.

state that same day.

The Cavs play at Florida State,
and today we learned that their game
with the Seminoles will begin Noon on
Saturday, November 4th.
